Howa 1500 pin

I have tried to remove the ejector pin roll pin but to no avail. I have bent about 4 punches trying to remove the pin, I have left the face of the bolt in a cup of Blaster penetrating oil for about two days hoping to loosen the roll pin, but it did not work. I called Howa and all I got was how to punch out a pin.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Yup! It'll take a good hardened punch (or two).

Some of them are just a !!!!

Be sure to compress the ejector slightly to remove the ejector tension on the roll-pin, and about 1:4 have similar stories of a tough pin. I have heard CLP; mild heat, kroil, etc... Time, patience, and a first strong strike to get it moving seem to be best. Brownells seems to think it comes out left to right; but I didn't measure any taper on it and Howa didn't specify.

Be sure to use a roll pin punch of a proper size; solid punches simply spread out the dia. of the roll pin. Put the bolt on a solid surface that has no give to it (I use a V block laid on the cement floor for hard ones) and whack it hard with a fairly heavy hammer. Surfaces that flex/give or a light hammer, will make the blow bounce and you usually do more to the punch than the pin.

Thank you for the replies.

I will get some punches, leave the head in a penetrating oil, heat up the bolt & use a hard surface & heavier hammer.

I was using my bench & brass hammer.

I cut off a small allen wrench , hold it with a needle nose vice grip . Works great and alot harder than some punches
