How would you rate this scope?

I was able to obtain a Sightron scope for my .308 rifle for F Class FTR competitive shooting, I couldn't pass the deal up so I jumped on it~ I’m new to the sport and my funds are a bit limited and my budget is somewhat tight. So I decided on this Sightron scope for now~ I’m using a Savage Ashbury Precision rifle in .308 caliber and I still need to mod a few things on my current stock setup. More money to spend, lol~

Thoughts? Recommendation or? Thanks~

It will do just fine. For F I like something other than just dot. Stadia lines of some flavor are nice for holding off and the finer the cross hair the better.

Also for about $1k you can pick up a used 12x42 NF Bench Rest that you can resale for what you paid for it later on if for some reason you ever feel the need to up grade. There's probably one or two in the classifieds if you go back a few pages. It's sort of the older gold standard of bench rest and F scopes. Still setting records with them.

I have never shot thru one before so I do not have an opinion on the scope.
My first 2 FTR matches I used a 45 competition Leupold with target dot. Learned fast I needed a scope with variable power to adjust down for heavy mirage, second was needed a different reticle for my holds other than a dot. It took awhile to make the decision and picked up a Nightforce Competition with FCR1 reticle. No regrets and was worth the money. Shot my next 2 matches with it and was impressed.

Over here just about everyone starts with that scope (just with the lrmoa ret) and as time passes might upgrade to a K1050, NF Comp/BR or March or what have you. Not because the S3 is a poor scope just because of our human nature where we want to "advance" and allot of guys dont want to drop March money (or cant) before he even knows if he will enjoy the sport. I just replaced my 8-32 S3 with a Vortex Golden eagle and again not because the S3 is n poor scope I just wanted more mag and 1/8 adjustments and I get this scope "change" bug every 6 or so months. Fot the money the S3 is a fantastic scope, good glass, good turrets and very reliable. If the mirage wasnt to bad I could see 6mm bullet holes on a white paper at 500y without to much trouble and the scope always retund to zero. Just do a tall target test and confirm you adjusment values and youl be very happy with that scope

Thank you, well I'm new to the sport and I didn't want to fork over 1k or more for some glass atleast not now. I have way too much money invested on my 3-Gun equipment, now this. This sport is not cheap by any means, lol~

I think you made a fine choice. I have several SIIIs and they've proven to be as reliable as a stone fence. Very nice glass and they track perfectly in my experience. The only criticism I have is the parallax adjustment can be a little touchy. Great value, though.
