How to use JB bore paste and Kroil correctly?

It’s so funny you say that. I thought the same thing the other night. I open the bottle and use it to clean something. Not because it works better than my other solvents, only because the smell brings back good memories from my childhood. Now only if they would make the tree air fresheners with the #9 scent for my car.

Yes. Every cleaning I open the bottle of Hoppes #9.
Clean the rifle without touching the #9
End of cleaning I put the cap back on.
Just never seems right without that smell. It has lasted me

Doesn't hurt that the olfactory senses bring back the most vivid memories either.

That's what is disappointing about today's 22rf ammo......not anywhere near the smell of the 50s and 60s. This recent semi sweet odor, honestly, really ruins a plinking session for me. I just plain miss it. Might as well torch a nickel bag :/

Soak an old tree air freshener in hoppes and hang it up. Then put the cap back on it cause its useless until the next time you need to refresh that air freshener

#9 is all I use and you can scope my barrel any day .....
Jb is used when barrel wears and starts collecting in the pits.

...and various lubricants, WD40, Kroil, etc.

It drives me nuts when I hear people say that WD40 is a lubricant, it's not. And neither is Kroil for that matter - I learned that as a machinist.

Read the labels, WD40 was designed to displace water and that's all it's good for.
Kroil is a penetrating oil, and that's how it should be used.

I know it's blasphemy to say that WD40 isn't really a good cleaner but it's not. It evaporates and leaves a sticky residue that attracts dust. Over time it gums up small moving parts to the point that they will no longer work properly.

If your firearm has been rained on then use WD40 to start the cleaning process, spray all of the metal parts down and then remove the WD40 with something like Acetone. Then clean the bore and finally put a light coating of gun oil on the metal.

If you want to flush contaminates or fouling from a metal surface then you can use Kroil. It's especially effective at getting under layers of carbon and copper and it helps release those contaminates. Clean the metal after you finish using Kroil.

Always clean and dry the metal before switching to a different chemical cleaner/penetrant/ etc. Mixing these chemicals reduce their effectiveness and in some cases can create corrosion. Always finish cleaning metal by drying it and applying a light lubricating oil of some kind.

Wow, I forgot about the smell that rimfire ammo used to have. And I believe that the nickel bag went out with the 70’s. Large price increases after that.

Wildcat for me. Shot several cases doing BE in the 70s. I do miss the acrid, slightly pungent ambiance.
Hmmmm, just remembered I found some WCat in a pawn shop a couple years back. Will have to use that when the wind ain't winding for full effect.
