How to turn brass to proper diameter?

How do I determine the throat diameter of my barrel? I have basically figured out how to measure the rest the chamber. But I want to buy Peterson fat neck brass. I just don’t know how much I am suppose to turn it to. I am newbe to neck turning.

Yes. Is it that simple? Do I need to worry about springback?

I never do, just take that measurement as your chamber neck diameter. Once you get the new brass, load a dummy round with the bullet of your choice and measure that od. Once you have those two numbers you will know what you have to remove plus a couple three thousands for clearance.

So after it is sized and turned, How many thous between the brass neck od and the chamber throat id? How much room for expansion I guess to say

If it’s a full competition setup, then I like .002”. If it’s a semi auto or hunting setup.003 or .004 even is ok.

Making a chamber cast would be another option.

That is a great idea. Thank you. I would do a chamber cast, but I don’t feel like having to pay to have my rifle torn apart. But I will call kreiger

Just do 1 at a time until you're sure it's right. Ask me how I know this.

In your 6.5 Creedmoor, more than 1 thou per side clearance would do better. Think 2 thou per side.

Brass that has been fired in your chamber *will* have springback. Likely 1 though per side.

I’d really recommend trying to establish what your neck diameter is. I’m surprised that it isn’t stamped on the barrel.

Kreiger won’t know what the diameter is. At least not normally.

You don't need to tear your rifle apart to do a chamber cast. Just get some cerosafe from Brownells and follow the instructions. It's not difficult.
