I just removed the barrel from my Remington 700 and the receiver threads are coated in old loctite.

Any ideas for removal?

Gentle heating with a propane torch and, when you can start to smell the Loctite, removal with a bronze bristle brush. I had the same problem on mine. The Loctite should melt at ~400°F.

K. Thanks!

Be aware that Loc tite has a form of cyanide in it. I would be careful of smoking it & certainly don't let it sit on your hands. If you ever started to itch after using loc tite, that's the 1st symptoms. Best used with disposable gloves.

Here's the MSDS for Loctite 271 (the red stuff). Note that it is sold in California and states that no harm is expected from ingestion. This product is as safe as any consumer chemical and, obviously, should be used in a ventilated area.
