How to measure action thread major diameter?

Is there a method to measuring the major diameter of the Internal threads on a trued action? Is there any way to measure this dimension without using specialized tools? I know that a specialized tool will give the best results but this is just for my curiosity and information. Thanks guys.

So .99 divided by thread pitch plus the internal diameter of the action threads. So if my trued Remington action has a thread diameter of 1.007 my barrel tennon diameter should be 1.068, correct?

I didnt check your math but sounds right
(.99/16)+id= turn to dimension

Usually a remington is right at 1" so i turn to 1.062 then thread to fit
