How To Legally Buy Ammo Online In California

I wouldn’t expect it to change anytime soon.

Left Illinois 6 years ago, after a lifetime there of 63 years. With last year’s elections, it’s heading in much the same direction as the Left Coast I’m afraid....

The background check is such a crazy part. I was in the business in California is back through the 90’s and we thought it sucked back then. I left for Oregon but sadly I’m just getting surrounded by the same craziness up here. Up here they’ve introduced a 20 rounds per month bill, it’s nucking futs.

I still want to see and hear how the law makers are going to come up with something that actually effects the criminals and their buying ammo and guns. So far none of these new laws will have or effect them one bit.
Black market and theft are still there and the avenue that criminals use, not gun shop/sales.

Please stop thinking logically. It's making the dems heads hurt

This is the current process of buying ammo in CA. It doesn’t seem to me that this process it nearly as big of a deal that some make it out to be.

A Guide to Purchasing Ammunition Online

This section was created for our California customers to clarify a few details and help better define the process of purchasing ammunition online so you know what to expect when you purchase ammo from us. No matter where you live within California, we must ship your ammunition to a Federal Firearm Licensed Dealer (FFL Dealer) or a California Ammo Vendor with a Certificate of Eligibility (COE). Don’t forget to check all local and state laws prior to placing any order. You must be at least 21 years of age to purchase ammunition. You must also be a legal resident of the state of California. Law Enforcement Officers can have ammunition shipped to them however they must follow the same procedure and policies outlined for high capacity magazines going to the state of California.

Purchasing ammunition online can be done in a few simple steps by using an FFL Dealer or California Ammo Vendor. The below steps outline both processes.

  • Arrange the transfer with an FFL Dealer prior to ordering.
    • California Dealers Accepting Ammo Transfers
    • Contact the dealer and let them know you would like them to receive ammunition for transfer from PSA. You will use this dealer as the shipping address when you place your order.
    • Provide the FFL dealer with our contact information so they can send a copy of their FFL if we do not have them on file.
      • Hours: Monday - Friday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM
      • Phone: 803-724-6950
      • Fax: 803-788-7979
      • Email: Contact Form
    • Ask about the transfer fee. Usually FFL dealers will charge a small fee in order to take care of the background check and 4473.
  • Place only ammunition in your cart for your purchase. Enter the shipping address of a California FFL that you have confirmed will accept ammunition shipments. Complete the checkout process.
    • Create an account or log in.
    • Add product(s) to cart.
    • Enter your FFL Dealer as the shipping address.
    • Enter billing and credit card information. Please note that you must be a resident of the state in which you wish to transfer the ammunition.
    • Review and submit order.
  • Pick up your ammunition and complete the transfer.
    • Watch the tracking information that we provide you. Once the order has arrived at the FFL dealer of your choosing, call your FFL for a good pickup time.
    • In order for the transfer to be approved, your FFL Dealer is required to have you fill out all required California paperwork and screening.

These bills / laws / recent or proposed legislation are not about reducing crime. They are an attempt to essentially make ownership of guns so onerous, difficult and expensive as to make citizens give em up, quit shooting, or move. Seems to be working.
anti-gun, no gun, registration is the mantra. not anti-crime.

you're kidding, right?

If you cant move apply for a gunsmith 01 FFL. They are not that hard to get. If it was me I would find as many shooters as you can that live there and file a class action against the state. Something the NRA should be doing.

Honestly, I thought you were posting in jest. It is what it is - is correct. I lived in Connecticut and had restrictive ammo buying policy there.
I don't live in CA, and am sympathetic to the right to bear arms. My plan - fund the NRA. yeah bitching online is the sound of one hand clapping.

Not kidding, but based on what I see it is what it is. What is your plan to change the current CA rules? Bitch on line?
Ben

Wedgy, you can thank Ben for your having to put up with this invasion of your rights, and if you feel that your family's poor judgment is a reason to give up your freedom then Ben is right, you aren't doing anything but bitching online. There comes a time when you need to be honest about what is important you. Make up your mind, either your family is most important or your feelings about Freedom is. If you to stay then quit complaining and just put up with the rules of the land.

I can't believe I have to do this....
Nobody carries Eley and not much waterfowl shells or tungsten from retailers so I have to order online. I have relatives here so moving isn't really an option.
This state is out of control.

The answer is simple: leave. If you can't, there is little recourse, although Phoenix is not that long of a drive ;).

This is meant to track those crazies that hoard ammo like a lunatic- you know those guys that have 3 guns and 250rds of ammo stockpiled
It's so hard to even believe anyone would need that much ammo for anything.
But I just checked my supplies .
150 50 Cal round balls
88 maxi hunter
38 power belts
1 partial pound of 4f
2.5 pounds of 2F
I'm ready for anything as long as the flint and frizen holds out.

California has a citizen initiative process. Get some $$$ backing, propose laws that hit lawmakers right in the pocket book. Citizens will happily sign them. Start recall campaigns against anyone who writes and backs these laws. Nail them to the wall and make them explain in detail how their laws will keep the undiagnosed but mentally ill from engaging in mass killings. Make them use real case details.
You may not get all you wish, but you'll keep lawmakers scrambling to keep their precious jobs and pensions and eventually the voice of reason will prevail.

I still want to see and hear how the law makers are going to come up with something that actually effects the criminals and their buying ammo and guns.
A couple points you must understand 1) they are stopping perceived potential criminals, not criminals. 2) it's about closing the gun ownership loop hole.
