I decided to get out of the great state of Maine for a few months and work on a buddies ranch in Texas. I really enjoy hunting hogs nut the deer are really causing havoc eating the corn before the hogs come in most days. Is there anything I can do to keep the deer away and still draw the hogs into the feeders? Sour corn maybe?

Sour the corn with cheap beer
Some people will also put diesel on the corn but if you’re eating the hogs I wouldn’t

Hey Feller, swinging trap door about hog high and put a net wire top on the fence around the feeder, prop the door open for a day or two and the hogs will learn it. We use them in Arkansas. If you want to make a trap out of it just let the door swing in and not out.... John

Duh, don’t put the sour corn in the feeders. Just sour it up in 5 gal buckets and hand scatter it. The Hogs love this stuff. We used high sugar soft drinks like Coke to ferment the corn but these days cheap beer might be cheaper than Coke! Also put the 5 gal buckets way up on something tall and be sure the lids are on tight otherwise the Hogs will find it when you aren’t ready to ambush them.

In Texas they are everywhere. I have seen them at San Antonio Airport .Jets don,t scare the off. Tommy Mc
HA!!! I’m up here in Kerrville. I was told that they were “everywhere” before I moved here! I got very excited! I was planning on shooting a passel of them. Then I got here. I haven’t seen a ONE on the 300+ acres that surrounds my house and I’ve hunted and poked in every corner of the property for the past 6 years! I’d like to think they heard I was coming and vamoosed! The reality is, I think, that we have a lot of good hunters in the area and they’re keeping the population down.

Wow! Usually guys are trying to keep the hogs away from the feeders!
Where in Texas are you?
Near Hico. Deer season is over. I hunt deer in Maine every year but I dont get an opportunity to hunt hogs often so here I am. Hog hunting is attractive because they are smart and can be very difficult with basically no restrictions on hunting them.

You sir are lucky. When they find your place you will know what i am saying. Good Luck. Tommy and welcome Home..

I have shot 5 hogs in the last two weeks but dam the deer are eating most all of the corn I am putting out for the hogs. I have seen as many as 7 deer on one feeder. I am running 3 cel cams and the deer burnt up all of my monthly data as they wont leave so I get pictures every 15 minutes 24/7

You’re about 3 hours north of me. I found hogs an hour north of me in Mason. They are smart and elusive. Good luck!

Try pig pipes instead of feeders. The hogs will learn to use them quickly and the deer don’t seem to bother them. Don’t put too many holes in the pipe or you will be filling real often. They are easy to make. Use a good swivel and use a large pivot stake or you will be hunting for the pipe. I went to 6” pvc so I didn’t have to fill as frequently.
