How to finish a laminate stock?

That spin jig is brilliant. I have a rotisserie on the shelf from a gas grill I once bought. If I decide to try this finish myself I may steal your idea. Lol.

Steal away! The old rotisserie would be perfect. I can NOT spray a finish to save my life! I wanted a thick clear finish on that yellow stock. Years ago, I used epoxies on boats I built, so I figured I’d give it a shot. It worked well for me. Two coats gave me a thick finish! I eventually polished out the dust puckers, too.
If your stock is already cut and fitted for your action and lug, don’t put any epoxy there.
Setting up the spinner took the most time. Mixing and brushing on a coat of epoxy took about ten minutes. It self levels while spinning.
I’m pretty picky when I make things. I am not embarrassed by the way the finish turned out. Ask Hogpatrol. He was the first one to shoot that gun. He’ll give you an honest opinion.

Tru-oil is durable and will give you years of service and easy to use and if you get a ding,,,steal wool and re-coat just area of ding. I have built over 50 laminated stocks with it. It will finish shinny, or use 000 steal wool for mat finish. Below is BB gun with 4 coats... Yes a BB gun...

This laminated marine ply stock has 3 coats of epoxy on it and another 8 coats of automotive 2 pac clear on it.

Here's one for anyone who "enjoys" a bit of research....

Probably 1980's? Look up a "Massey" epoxy finish. It's a thinned down epoxy used on trad bows. Archery limbs are the ultimate test bed for finishes because...... we're too stupid to come in,out of the rain and the finish has to flex,almost doubled over and not fail. Makes auto,and gun finishes almost boringly easy. Just sayin,not preaching.

Fuller Plast,is another "bow" finish that dates back decades,and is still used by some pretty big "players" in the biz. It checks all the boxes,and is what we use. Have heard some good things on Thunderbird bow finish as well. There's another co with this name,just make sure it's the one "specific" to bows(and arrows).

i sent mine off to Mr. Childress I believe in the motto of having the very best in their craft do the work thats needed. I'm no wood worker and I would have had a mess on my hands for sure.. LOL im excited to see the end results for sure!

In process of getting his logo made to go on sides of forend.
Damn vinyl cutter keeps mis cuts the crosshairs in the "G".
My plan is to spray a green to gold color shift pearl for the logo "ghosted" in.
