How to find local matches in your area?

I dont really mind the drive but not wanting to get into the bigger matches yet till I figure out whats going on and how things operate. I cant get any of my shooting buddy's to want to go to any other matches with me, It's like its out of their comfort zone? I'm going to try and make it to a few of the one's I was told about even if I have to go by myself,.. I have proven many times I can make a fool of myself without help just fine... LOL

I don't want to twist your arm but I don't think you need to worry about that much. Maybe you'd want to avoid actual Regional Championships or similar but I don't think Solon even has those.
Reach out to the contact and tell them directly you're thinking about your first 600yd match.
They'll probably be thrilled to have you and may offer extra help.
You should have a good, at least well-calculated, 600 yard zero when you get there. This forum can help with that if necessary.
I don't mean to push Solon particularly, though I've heard only good things. Atterbury or wherever else you like the sound of should be great.

the other possible extreme of preparation:
1. study the rulebook you're interested in
2. watch videos
3. ask questions here
4 get or make reduced targets
5 shoot a simulated match at your local range by yourself
6 shoot a local 'match' with a couple buddies

Again, no NEED to do all that unless you LIKE it

Local club stuff it all I have ever shot, I actually run our club 300 yards varmint match so I kinda get the jist of what to do but some matches follow different rules like... factory or custom and have weight limits. Some have their own rules and some follow NRA or such. Dont want to drive several hours to find out my gun needs to be on a diet or my rest is not allowed or something like that. Most of the local clubs have more relaxed rules and thats what I'm after, could care less about winning just dont want to be the guy that showed up to a gun fight with a knife.

We can almost certainly do that here in a few posts. If you want to shoot F-class I or many others can verify your equipment. Others can jump in for bench classes or whatever else. Local rules that are MORE restrictive than national are unusual and clearly marked on the bulletins ex Palma Only. Much more likely that local rules might allow more than national or have additional classes. ex f-practical. It's also very common to allow even clearly illegal equipment to shoot for experience but not record the score or give it "Out of Competition" status.

The only thing that is reasonably likely to have that gets outside of f-class rules is a brake.
You also have to single load.

Most of the matches at Solon or Atterbury or Reade(Pa) ARE going to be local in nature.
Relaxed, informal, friendly, inexpensive.
If the match bulletin is for official Regionals or States they get more expensive and busier for sure but still not bad.

Is there a listing or something where matches are listed or posted? I can find some of the larger ones but looking for smaller matches closer to home. Southwest Ohio, some people have mentioned a 600 yard match in Delphos Ohio but I can find nothing on it.
I would be contacting gun stores and sportsmen clubs. Maybe even local Game Warden. Have you looked at the listing of club locations from national organizations such as GBR, NRSBA, or IBS? Have you given your local and asked on here?

Yes that was post number 1. Some have given me info for online "where to shoot" web sites but a lot of those are woefully out of date as most of the ranges listed near me are closed and a few have been gone for years.

Contact Kelblys, they might have an idea. Hillsdale rifle club in MICH. I think has a match in conjunction with a club in Indiana. I have shot matches at Hillsdale. Get on their website and contact the fellow who runs the br matches. I know there are several UBR clubs in Kentucky.Where there is a will, there is a way. Start a match, someone does, thats how we get them.
