How to figure powder weight for unlisted bullet weights

I have a 22Cheetah mkII that I would like to shoot some 40-45 gr bullets from but I can't find any load data for these weights. Should I start with a powder charge towards the maximum weight for a 50gr bullet and work up?

Any suggestions are greatly welcome.

Jim

I am not looking or asking to start with s maximum load for the 40 gr I am asking if I should use the higher charge of the 50 gr.

i think i understand your question, powders work differently depending on the resistance they encounter at ignition, so i would start at the mid to lower levels, of the heavier bullets.

The next thing i would choose a faster burning powder as the lighter bullets usually work better with faster burning stuf,

start mid on a fast powder and slower work up

What powder, exact bullet, COAL, barrel legnth are you using?

Robert I was thinking ablout using IMR 4320 IMR 4064 H380 IMR4350 in Remington 308 BR brass using Remington 7 1/2 primers. The gun has a 1/16 twist heavy 26" barrel on a Mauser action. The COAL is not known at this time but would be similar to the 50 & 52 gr tips which is 2.600" firmly on the lands.
I have other powders like H414 IMR 4895 Relaoder 10X V133 V135 W748 A4350 A2700
I have some 40 gr A-Max tips that I would start out with.

Is there a 40 Gr A-Max? I see a V-Max but not an A-Max so I used the V-Max. I don' think you will get a COAL of 2.6 with that short of a bullet. I went with 2.5 as the COAL with these. From the calculations, If you go with something longer than 2.5, the pressures should be lower.

I used - 26" Barrel, 40Gr V-MAX, 2.5 COAL

WARNING! THESE ARE AT OR CLOSE TO MAXIMUM PRESSURE ACCORDING TO QUICKLOAD SO AT BEST, THESE ARE YOUR MAX LOADS. REDUCE THESE LOADS BY 10% AND WORK UP SLOWLY FROM THERE LOOKING FOR PRESSURE SIGNS. 50763 PSI IS WHAT WAS LISTED AS MAX PRESSURE. I MAKE NO CLAIM TO THE CORRECTNESS OF THIS DATA. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

POWDER GRAINS VEL PSI FILL%
IMR 4320 44.3 4113 49996 90.5
IMR 4895 43.6 4134 49667 87.6
H 380 45.8 4095 50291 90.1
IMR 4350 48.2 4044 49991 97.4
R 10 37.6 4084 49978 80.1

The fill ratios on most of these powders was not good. They are below what I would choose for this round. I have to leave for the office but I will take a closer look when I get some time if needed.

This is great information and I would certainly not hold you or anyone accountable and I assume total response.

Correct on the V-Max, the A-Max are on the 50 grain.

I have had this gun for about 10 yrs now and have vowed to myself that this year I will conquer my problems with this gun. I have tried a lot of brand bullets in 55, 53 & 52 gr as well as various powders. I fire formed some new brass last week using 50gr A-Max with IMR 4320 (low velocity stuff) and got some of the best groups ever. This is what has peaked my desire to try 40 to 45 gr bullets.

Does Quickload give suggestions for powder ? I know that there has been a lot of discussion/concern with the load ration of the 22 CHeetha. As long as I am using Rem 7 1/2 primers I have 0 hang fires and no fires. If I use CCI I do experience these issues.

Thanks so much for looking into this and if you can offer any other suggestions, I would be grateful.
