How to buy reloading equipment today

I have everything there is to buy in the way of reloading equipment so I have not bought anything in years. I have more than one of many things when I forgot that I had and item and ordered another only to find later that I had duplicates.

That was back in the day when we got great catalogs in the mail box and sat in the evening and made out our lists to call in the next day.

I am helping a friend get into reloading and I am gathering up some of those duplicates to give him. But there are a few things that I need to order to complete the list. So I go "on line" and after an hour of trying to find a few simple things I gave up.

I had an "itch" to buy a second top for my Brownells bench rest shooting rest. That way I could have a front rest bag for my 3" flat forearm and one for my sporters. I searched the Brownells website and couldn't find the parts. A simple call and talking to a LIVE real person gave me all the part numbers I needed.

If you know what things he needs, a phone call might work best for you. If he was with you, the two of your could decide on specifically the items, they could add them to his cart, and complete checkout before you end the call.

Just another option.

It's way easier today to buy reloading stuff than it was 25 years ago. Instead of having a stack of catalogs you had to go through an take notes, you simply go to the companies websites and do a search. Also, access to the small specialty manufactures is better.

And I like Brownells a lot.

Midway published a "mostly" comprehensive reloading catalog in 2019. Maybe you can still get a copy from them.

I'm an old guy with an obsolete computer and I've been able to get everything I need on line. Sinclair / Brownells / Midway sites are not difficult to use as they have drop down menus' for various categories.

The one item missing from the Midway catalog is a precision priming tool. Sinclair make an excellent one albeit expensive but it will last a life time but worth the investment in my opinion.

Many companies now have what is called a wishlist on their website. So instead of circling and making a list and a catalog you just add everything to your wishlist in the same kind of way. Then if you want to make a phone call they can give you item numbers to add to your cart

I have the opposite problem. Figuring out how to not buy this stuff. But whenever possible, I talk to and order from a human on the phone, after I locate the stuff online. I hate imaginary carts, and assuming it’s in stock. Then getting an email saying back ordered.

Brownells purchased Crow Shooters Supply and destroyed that also.

I never heard of them, so I will take your word on that. What is missing is the Sinclair International Catalog. I still have one saved, thankfully. I wish I had more. Their catalog was almost like a reloading/shooting course/handbook. If you needed to improve your reloading or shooting, or needed to learn how to do something, you could turn to their catalog for information on what to do and which product(s) were best to use. The advise in their catalogs based on the experience of their serious shooters was worth a lot. I don't know if that exists anywhere.

If you bought all your reloading gear years ago, I bet you will find a lot of new things that you might want to consider now. I have really changed the way I load compared to when I started loading in the 60s.

If someone spends a fair amount of time reading here at the forum as I think you do, it's not too difficult to go have a look at a website to check out some new piece of reloading equipment you see mentioned in a thread. I see interesting things others have discovered and provided links to on a regular basis. If it looks like something I might be interested in at some point, I bookmark the page before leaving. I have a specific bookmarks folder for shooting/reloading webpages that I can go through pretty quickly to find whatever website I'm looking for. Sometimes, I will visit some of these sites simply to browse through their equipment offerings. You just have to keep your ear to the ground and spend a little bit of time online to keep up with at least part of what's out there.

Here are two websites at which I am particularly fond of spending money:
