How often do you lube lugs when ff Ackleys?

How often do you lube your lugs when ff Ackley, dasher, false shoulders, anything with crush?
I usually do it every couple of rounds and clean and dry the chamber as well.
Is this excessive?

Keep the lugs and inner abutments clean but well lubed through the ff process. I agree with Dusty...not excessive at all as long as you keep it clean. Lube collects dirt and crud in there.

Like Paul says, grease collects dirt and junk, but you gotta keep lube on the lugs. Not just when fire forming either....I keep mine lubed all the time. It is never good to run locking lugs dry. This was a conversation earlier this week...seems some folks believe that lugs and their mating surfaces in the receiver are exempt from wear of any kind.

Bold text above is mine.

My practice is to lube after every cleaning (chamber, bore, bolt, lugs) then again just before the start of a day's match shooting or practice session. Preference for this operation has been and continues to be Milcomm's TW25B.

Used properly (not overdone) it dries to a film that attracts less contamination than other, stickier products. I bought a large tube several years ago out of which I fill two smaller ones; one in my range box, t'other in my cleaning kit.

Try extreme pressure Molybdenum Disulfide with Lithium. Moly will work into the grain of the metal (sort of like oil into a bronze bearing). Even after you wipe it off, the metal will still have a slight "greasy" feel. The Lithium makes it tacky.
You can still ignite some discussion about Moly lubed bullets, but on bolt lugs it works.

What’s the purpose behind lubing the lugs while fire forming?

It's normal to jam a bullet when fireforming so when closing the bolt, it closes as soon as the lugs can turn in to the lug recesses so that means friction/wear on the rear of the lugs I would assume. The bolt closes harder than it would if the bullet was short of the lands.

Its good stuff. It seems to be a higher priced version of the mystik i use.
Just FYI my local Walmart sells it if you're looking for some cheaper , I use it for this and lube for a Dillon press... I used mystik and I think the grease gun for my tractor still has some in it , both are good stuff....

How do you guys apply the grease?
I use a generic moly with lithium ep dabbed on the corner of a folded up shotgun patch. Wipes on easy, not too much, and doesn’t make a mess.
Or my finger...
