How much Torque on the Screws when installing a new stock ?

Hello,

my name is Jonas and I just bought a new glass fibrestock and want to put my action in.
I know the torque on the screws should be the same on all so it s best to use a torque wrench.
But how much torque should I apply?
Thank you for your help.

Jonas

You should contact the maker of your action. Each maker uses different inch pounds for their actions.

That actually depends on the make of the action.

A Savage, for instance, should be about 45 inch pounds on the front screw and quite a bit less on the rear. The actual rear screw torque is best experimentally determined (start at 45 inch pounds and lighten up from there). On my match rifle, I'm running 45 in front and 15 at thte back end right now, but I haven't had time to experiment with it since I rebedded the rifle.

Remingtons are 45 to 60 inch pounds on both screws assuming that the action is properly bedded.

Your stock manufacturer might give specs in their instructions - especially if the stock has a bedding block.

Hey,

thank s for the reply. You guys just made me really happy. I will contact the manufacturer. By the way my rifle is a Steyr SSG 69 and I want to use it in 3oo meter matches. Thank you again for your replies, I really appreciate it.

Best wishes

Jonas :)

I called Steyr in Austria,
they where very friendly and told me that the best torque would be between 3 to 5 Nm for the Steyr SSG 69.
They said also it s important to tighten the screws in the same order every time.
