How Much Power?

AR Shooter

Shot my first F Open 600yd match yesterday (672-16X) and need a bit more power than my 18X scope provides. Not enough separation between the X- and 10-rings to establish a good sight picture. Am thinking either a Leupold 6-25X or a Nightforce 6-32X would serve me well, but am wondering if the extra power of the Nightforce is needed? Thanks.

I have a 10x50x60 sightron I bought recent and I love it. For the money I think there is no better. The. glass is very good very good I say I was very surprised at 50 power the parallax is a little touchy but most high power scopes are 1/8 moa adjustments and 50 moa of travel should cover anything at 600

You can always dial the power down, but you can only go as high as the magnification of the scope. I started with a Leupold VXIII 8.5-25 my first year. The next year I moved up to a NF 12-42x56 BR and the difference was amazing. The Leupold was a good scope, but he NF was better. Look around on shooting websites and you can sometimes score one for around $1000 or so since many folks are buying the new competition NF scope.
But, having said all that get the best scope you can with your available budget.

Question- If it was a 3X600 match with 20 rounds per string, wouldn't your score wasn't a 572-16X? If so, that would be a nice Expert score for your first time out. Congrats! Or did you some type of 80 shot match?

Thanks for the replies thus far. Been giving lots of consideration to the 8-32x NF, but I'll start looking at the 8-42X, as well as Sightron. Would like to stay in the $1000-1200 range, if possible.

Was a 60-shot match. I've shot quite a bit of service rifle and was an F/TR competitor 5-6 years ago. Am mostly a BPCR & rimfire shooter these days, so a good hold is not new to me. Wish I had more time for F-Class as the new rifle really shoots well and I lucked into a load it likes almost from the start. Am sure the rifle is capable of better, even if I'm not.

Edit: Went with a Sightron SIII 8-32X56mm with MOA-2 reticle.
