I just bought a used benchrest rifle and the krieger barrel has around 900 rounds shot through it. On an average how many rounds should i get before the barrel goes to the garden? Thanks guys for being patient with all my questions!! I am an eager beaver!!! Lee

You didn't say what caliber. Can we assume 6PPC?

If you were told 900 rounds you can probably bet it's more like 1500. I'm surprised someone told you it was 900. It's usually, 'Hasn't been fired more tha 350 rounds'.

Next question is - are you an experienced Benchrest shooter? If so, you know that 900 or 1000 rounds is already too many.

A good Benchrest barrel in the hands of a good Benchrest shooter is usually a tent stake at around the 1000 mark. Some will last a little longer, some a little less.

On the other hand, if you are still learning and simply want to compete for the learning experience, it will be OK. You'll eventually want to get a new barrel but the take-offs are good for many more rounds as a live varmint, practice, or case forming barrel.
