How many racers/tuners/engine builders out there?

I help my buddy with his car a little , and I still get the itch from time to time . when I do ,I go with him to the races . it sends me back to reality . these couple pics were at Virginia motorsports park , for a pinks all out race .

40 years in drag racing, several different cars and classes. My last car was a Top Dragster ran 6.70's at 199 mph in 1/4, sold everything in 2010. I own a machine shop and have built all kinds of race engines for 30yrs. I got interested in benchrest in 2006 and spend all my spare time shooting. DG

Damn! I thought this was Accurate Shooter.com site....NOT the National Hot Rod Association!!

The two sports are very much alike. Hot rodding guns is much the same as cars. Much of the advertised to fit, requires modifications. Things in both sports can blow up if you push them too hard. Both are a money pit, with cars being the bigger pit in most cases. Guns are easier to work on though when you get old, as they can be tinkered on from above. For the most part your hands stay cleaner also. I switched to guns. Poor people have poor ways. Cars are too costly for me!

You're talkin my language there ;)

We weren't into photography back in the early 60s :D but rather tearing up the 1320 ;D I had a 1953 HenryJ with a nicely built 401 Buick nailhead punched out to 425 shoehorned into the chassis 8)

The nailhead was a great choice, often overlooked. Back in ancient times when I ran in the SCCA, there was a west coast gentleman named Max Balchowski who got the sports car crowd to sit up and take notice with a series of one off nailhead powered specials he named "Old Yaller"; Old Yaller #1 was ugly but fast, each successive one got prettier and they were all fast... Max was a genius with Buick engines; I think he was also involved with the Buick engines in "TV" Tommy Ivo's fuel dragster efforts. And to this day, there is no better looking engine for a street rod than a nailhead Buick, imo.
