I was diagnosed with rectal cancer in June, 2009. I had radiation and chemo, then surgery, followed by 8 more rounds of chemo. In November, 2010, a CT scan showed metastasis in both my lungs. We watched it for another year since those were small and slow growing. Since November, 2011, I have been undergoing chemo every 2 weeks. In May of this year, that chemo quit working and I switched to another regimen which, so far, thank the Lord, is working. I take that every 2 weeks as well.
All through this, I have continued to shoot. Maybe not as many matches, but I still get to shoot 600 and 1000 yard F class with friends. Electronic targets have been a Godsend.
It’s not what I want, but it is what it is. In fact, I feel blessed.

The big C is nasty stuff. I feel for you. Mine is much easier to deal with. Diagnosed end of Nov.'16 with a prostate PSA level of 686 (not a misprint) another couple years and by that time it had metastasized to most of my bones. With no treatment,I was given 2yrs. Luckily, radiation was effective on the prostate, no chemo involved. Having cancer of any sort is very unfortunate, but luckily this particular strain metastasizes to the bones and not internal organs. And luckily, a clinical trial drug in conjunction with the regular treatment has done it's job keeping things well in check. Side effects of course, but they're much preferable to what could be. Just keep chuggin' along. Good luck to you.

I assume you have bladder cancer. I went through that about 10 years ago. Fortunately it had not progressed to the point of having my bladder removed. I had 2 outpatient surgeries, one for tumor and one for polyps along with 2 rounds of that live virus put inside to eat away at the inner wall. I just had my last clean cystoscopy last month.

A year and a half ago, I woke up with abdominal pain. Later that day I ended up in ER. They removed my appendix that was turning black, and repaired a hernia. A month later I went in for follow up, and get informed of an issue on my bladder. Possibly bladder cancer. At the same time, my youngest son was diagnosed with hodgkins. He has made it through his treatments and came out clean. My biopsy fortunately came back negative, but have had many bladder infections since this started. Good luck to you.

I have stage 4 metastatic lung cancer, in 4 areas, lung, thyroid, liver and prostrate, have been fighting for over a year. Hang in there. Had my Pet scan Monday. My lung tumor was lemon size, now it is pea size. Thyroid and liver tumors are gone. When the lung tumor is gone they will start on the prostrate.. I can handle it, it is my wife that worries, feel sorry for her. What god is merciful when he robs old people of their bowel movements and them throw's cancer at them . Getting old sucks. I know you have a lot of people praying for you, rjtfroggy, include me . Hang in there I forgot to mention, for those who want to know, the drug I am being treat with is called, KEYTRUDA. nilebartram

Be positive, pray, make peace with the Lord and listen to the experts. Fight the Dragon! Your right the cure sometimes feels worst than the disease. Four cancer operations, kemos, for five years, I know it's not ease. As I laid in the hospital, I told my wife how I wish I could attend an up coming match. Soon after getting out she helped me load up and take my equipment and shoot that match. Don't give up. People will help get thru this. This stuff is hard. Even when you have tuff days, put one foot in front of the other, smile and press on. I've been clear for 2 years now and still at times my gutts are confused. I'm happy for each day I have on the right side of the grass. Thank the Lord! Fight the Dragon! Best of wishes in all.

Here's my 2 cents worth. Life happens. And sometimes it happens to us. When that occurs we need to do what is needed to get through it. Eventually it becomes a memory. And we learn to live with the outcome.. If you feel like shooting then go shooting. Do not let this bring your life to a halt. I know it's tough.. Been there a few times..

Not to infringe on Dusty's thread but how many of you have or are shooting while battling this terrible disease?
I am and it sucks, some times I think the treatment is worse than the disease. I know that for a few days after treatment I feel like poop (to put it nicely). Now for over a year there has been a shortage of the medicine needed to treat my cancer so it is just sitting there waiting to explode. Other chemo meds literally peel the inside bladder wall away and I pass it while voiding, almost as bad as a kidney stone 3-4 times a day.
Now they want to remove the bladder which is a 3-4 month recovery with extended hospital stay and with this virus even more complications can or will show up. Drs. may not even be willing to do it right now because it is a BIG procedure, everything gets removed and is replaced with a bag.
Wonder where I will be in a year, all I can do is pray.
Not looking for sympathy maybe a few prayers would help. No one to blame but myself.

After reading some subsequent replies, I realized I left something out of my previous post. I forgot to thank my wonderful and gracious friends who have helped me in my battle with cancer. This includes helping me at the range carry my gear, set up targets, etc. One friend doesn’t even shoot yet he will get up early and travel to the range with me just to lug my gear and provide moral support.
As I said, I feel blessed.
