How long to neck size before F/L sizing?

This is for my Savage with a 6BR no-turn neck Shilen barrel...

My gunsmith recommended minor F/L resizing every time I reload my 6BR brass so I was bumping back the shoulder by 0.002' each firing.

However, I am fed up with the runout problems I am having using my Redding F/L die and am going back to using my Lee collet die exclusively, which produces brass with very little runout).

I don't shoot in matches, just for fun at 200 - 500 yards.

Is there anything wrong with only neck sizing my brass until it's too hard to close the bolt and then F/L resize? I remember getting probably 4 firings before the bolt got really tight.

Even if I do this, I will probably remove the expander/decapper and neck size with my collet die after the occasional F/L resize.

Not a thing wrong with doing it that way, but FL sizing each and every time will be more consistent ...

How much runout are you talking about ? Do you KNOW that it is affecting your groups ? How many rounds has this brass been fired ? Has it ever been annealed ?

I would recommend sending three fired cases to Harrell's Precision and getting one of their semi custom dies. A .266 or .267 bush would be appropriate.

Very good question. I guess I need to test this first before I get all worked up. I'll load a batch of F/L sized and a batch of neck sized and see what happens.
