How have your rifle caliber prefernces....

Well, the older I get, the smaller my hunting cartridges have gotten
yup. i like to shoot, so punishing myself with 15 rounds of big cal recoil after a long drive to the range is not nearly as satisfying as taking a couple varmint calibers out for a 100 round spin. the drive is the same, powder and bullets half the price, a little more for gatorade and snacks, and i can shoot til my eyes give out instead of my shoulder.

I've gone from handguns and hunting guns to plinkers, then some shot guns and just for fun shooters to BR. (short range) guns.
I should jump on the band wagon and sell all the ones I don't use, could probably fund a couple of new BR. guns. Would also make the wife happy so she doesn't have to deal with it if something happens to me.

I went from pushing the 30-06 to 30-30 & 45-70. I love the 223 these days for bulk shooting & for deer the 243 has replaced the 30-06.

Not a huge fan of recoil - so for a long time I was in the .223 and .22 world. Then I ventured into the .243.

THEN I discovered long range AND what can be done with a heavy gun, larger cartridges and shooting prone. (I like shooting prone vs the bench because it feels like I can control the gun better.) Now I'm totally enamored with the .284.

Not me. I like the wheated boubons like Weller and Larceny, or Pappy if I could afford it.
I had a chance to try some Pappy, but at $100 a shot, I said a few
of those words that end with participles and kept walking. It was one
of those places that scrub toilets with "Makers Mark" and most tossing
down Scotch.

Either way......I look back at my endeavers, and had my cat beginnings
with the 350 Remington Mag. I was more interested in heavy bullets
at the time, so I was doing it in 375. It was my Pa. bear rifle for a couple
of years before selling it for 284 Winchester. That cartridge has been
my foundation for work over the years. Currently shoot my SA284
which is a shortened 284 in the 308 class lengths, and my latest is the
284-ELF, a real short version of the parent 284. It's around 6-GT length
but a much bigger boiler room. All are 7mm / 284. So I think I'll wear
these socks for the time being. I'm having fun.

I am with others here it seems. I have moved to smaller, faster less recoil cartridges.
Some buddies bust my stones for parting ways with some of my rigs. Now seemed like a good time to move them if I was going too. Why store them in the back of the safe when I can sell for what I paid for them and better.
I have three rifles on consignment now. When one sells I will finally make up my mind if a Bighorn or a ARC action will be ordered.
Debating on another .20 now, 20VT or just do a 20-222. Then I get thinking of a .19 caliber something.

Didn’t think the difference in recoil between ‘06, 308 class rifles was all that much and started shooting 6mm’s years ago. Guess I got use to them then I got an eye opener! A friend called me and wanted me to shoot in a Highpower EIC match. Hadn’t done it that in years so I said sure Why not? Got out the old M-1A, loaded some 168 SMK’s with my old load, put what I could remember for dope on the Gun and off to the match.

Standing, 200yds:
fired the first round (talking to myself)
F#$K Me…..! Only 49 rounds to go
Second round
Son of a B$&@H…! Only 48 rounds to go.
and on and on.

Love my 6mm’s.
