How do you hold your 6br????

Want to know how most of you guys or gals are shooting your rifle?

Do you do the free style thing with just a very light hold on the
rifle or do you use a death crip with lots of cheek pressure?
I do think this is a issue with me..As sometimes I can shoot
a bug hole group and another time I get the unexplained flyer.

I found that with my 223 I would more less just let it lay there
and squeese the trigger or pinch it..And let it free recoil..

I need to somehow develope a more cinsistent mythod...So I am open
to any ideas some of you other pros may have..I think cold weather
shooting with a jacket also hinders my groups..One fellow said he uses
the wrap around stock hold with his check laying heavy on the stock..
Now I suppose the stock shape makes a huge difference..My stock
is the Bell and Carlson brand..Maybe a smaller style would be
better for me....So I am open to suggestions...Thanks for any help on this...

Now that is a good question, not easily answered. The simple answer is that you have to find what works best for you. That will be reflected on the target in accuracy. I have watched shooters for thirty years and tried to emulate almost every hold imaginable and not found one that is absolutely perfect for me. Therefor, I strive to repeat what is the most comfortable and easy to shoot consistently in the ten and X ring. It involves all the things you said about cheek pressure, leg position, arm position, whether you use a spotting scope or not and a thousand other things. Just shoot and develope what works for you.
Wish I had a magic answer for your but I am afraid, I do not.
Guess I should have asked if this is for strictly bench shooting or F Class. Obviously my response is for shooting prone in F Class. Sorry if I am comparing apples to oranges.

I am shooting off a bench for F class as I can not get into prone due to a rod in my back...I am thinking about going back to the smaller stock, but hate to take things apart you know..So I guess the best thing to do is load up a bunch and go shoot...

What kind is the smaller stock? What kind of rest are you using or is it off a bipod? What weight is your trigger?

I use free recoil with my 6PPC. I only touch the trigger nothing else but the front rest and rear bag has to be set just right to make sure the gun recoils the same each time. This works with the light bullets such as 60-70gr for me.

Once the crosshairs have settled where you intend to let the shot go , you should only apply the minimum amount of cheek , shoulder and grip pressure needed to execute the shot . The amount of pressure necessary should be determined and noted during your practice sessions . Head position should always be the same for proper shot placement , and this should also be noted in your practice sessions . You should not be inducing any pressure via these three areas in order to keep the crosshairs on your let off point . If you can shoot free recoil then do so and eliminate the three above as much as possible . Let the bags hold the rifle and scope on your target point , your eyes and your brain should be on the flags , wind and mirage conditions , and target image !

Technically, I believe free recoil is against the rules in f-class. The (NRA highpower) rules state you have to shoulder your rifle. This of course doesn't matter a lick unless you're in a tournament; for local or fun shoots I wouldn't think anybody would care.

That said, I found that light shoulder pressure on the buttstock works best for me in F-Open, "pinning" the front of the stock against the rest stop.

Guys,
I'm perhaps misreading what is being posted, but it seems to me the comments are mixing apples with oranges. The initial post uses the term, "6br" which implies Benchrest shooting, not prone shooting. By that I mean F-Class (prone) is a very different discipline than is Benchrest shooting off a Bench utilizing a rest other than a bipod. Then Free recoil is also different than both of those when you choose not to shoulder your weapon and merely reach over from a seated position/cahir and stick a small portion of your index finger into the trigger guard to let the round fly. And as has been pointed out, you can't to that in F Class anyways. SO which of these are you asking about Cocopuff? Thx.

Shynloco, you need to read the OP's post that was posted at 6:08 PM on 3/29. He is shooting F class from a bench and explains why.

Hmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WELL....guess there's something new all the time. My read of his comments are based on some things I've not encountered. I have NEVER heard of shooting F Class Competitions using "true" Free Recoil off a Bench (as used in "Benchrest" competitions in either Rimfire or 6mmbr as opposed to either Open or Benchrest Competitions. Have several friends who have been shooting Competion F Class for 30+ yrs so I'll have to run this one by them for enlightenment and broadening of my horizons. If I offended anyone, not my intent and my apologies.
