How big is "big bore" ?

Most big bores rifles are very manageable to shoot. Big mistake most people make is trying to shoot off a bench. Big Mistake.

When I'm on the bench the biggest problem is the concussion bouncing off the bench and roof.

Recoil is not an issue.

Not at all. I shoot more 22LR than anything else. I'm working on a 17 and 20 cal that are less powerful than a Hornet.

I like my big stuff because the after effects is very relaxing. I'm chilled out for the evening and I sleep well.

If you are talking about modern(ish) cases then I've always thought big bore started at the 40 cal line. I've always heard/read the 33s up to the 375s referred to as medium bores.

If you are talking BPCR then I think "big" starts with the 45s (actually anything smaller than a 45 is small) Everything else it just normal.
