How are your Standing, Off-Hand Rifle Skills -- Check out this Hunter

In today's Daily Bulletin we feature Franz Albrecht Öttingen-Spielberg, a young German hunter. Shooting off-hand with a Sauer 202 bolt action, he makes multiple kills on wild boar running at full speed. Half way through the video, a pack of boar crosses right to left, running fast. You need slow motion to see all Franz’s hits as he engages one animal after another. He doesn’t hit with every shot, but a quick count shows that nearly half his shots, fired rapid-fire from a standing position, were solid takedowns. This guy shows what can be done with plenty of practice, an accurate rifle, and a serious chambering (7mm Rem Magnum).

Thank's lots of roast boar available for his family and friends when his day of hunting is done.

One major thing that helps him to be good is he keeps the rifle shouldered through his shots. Everyone should practice working their bolts quickly while keeping the rifle shouldered. Amazing how many drop the gun down to work the bolt.

Another thing to remember is his shots are relatively close. Looks like 50 yards or even less for the shots. Hogs run relatively "flat" so you don't need to figure in an up and down movement like you do with deer and "lopes.
Keep scope power down so you have a large field of view. Sad how so many hunt with powers set over 4 X. Heck. I killed an 8 pt this year walking at 240 yards on 3X. You need to see if you are going to hit moving things.

Thanks for sharing the video. It's a good lesson for many to help their shooting.

I dont care how close or how far,I wouldnt want to be a pig in his woods. That kid is unreal.

It doesn't matter if those hogs were 20 yards away, that dude has incredible skill at shooting swift moving targets with a scoped bolt action long gun. Simply amazing....

Plainly stated, HE is a shooter unlike some of the TV "hunters" that think it's unethical to shoot at a walking deer. That level of shooting requires practice not associated with shooting from a rest. I was taught to shoot a rifle on running rabbits ahead of beagles using 22's. Deer & pigs are a whole lot bigger.
As my uncle who mentored me stated , " if you can hit rabbits consistantly, deer are easy". I once watched a TV "hunter" watch a 150+ buck walk across a open field like a plow horse as he pleaded "stop, please stop". Shooting a 300 WSM at 200 yds, lead him 2" or just plain learn to shoot. Kudos to the forum boss for posting this.

Shooting a little clay target does help a bit... trust me ;)

That being said, he is quite skillful and talented. I noticed that he uses a sustained lead technique. That technique is quite accurate (that is why almost all high level skeet shooters use it).

One must remember though, that 50 meter running target was an Olympic event for years and was discontinued after the '88 Olympics. 10 meter air rifle running target contintued on until '04 and was droped for the '08 Olympics. I had the opportunity to shoot one of the junior shooter's rifles on the 10 meter running target back in '95 when I happened to be at the Olympic Training Center for the shotgun nationals. It was fun to watch the pellet travel a perceived curved arc to the target.

Shooting at running game? Sure, I do it when I have an opportune shot, but I don't do it unless I have a 100% probability of kill. Great fun can be had with a semi-auto 22 and ground squirrels. If you can hit those, you can hit anything!

I don't think I could do as well as he did if I was shooting a minigun shooting buckshot.I could sure make some noise though.
Darrel,
I couldn't either but look at all the fun you would have trying :D

It is always great pleasure to see one "row" a bolt gun and that guy is looking good!!! I miss the days of the bolt ATC gun and the fellows that could do the same with our Springfields. Heres a link to another fellow with a 98: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haf9QURxO4E, though no shooting at anything you can tell he's well practiced in the art.

l ve shot silhouette matches STANDING for years.. Skeet too. 0ne compliments the other.. A running deer is a bit easier to hit than a Clay Pigeon

I don't know about that,I have never shot 100 running deer in a row. Clays, it's doable.

He is handy! I love getting to shoot the movers at the Rifles Only range, I'm going to build a 100' mover track at our range this year.
