How are you guys depriming 6.5x47 Lapua brass?

I have been using a Lee universal decapping die to deprime my brass, mainly 308, 6.8SPC and 223. I'm just now dipping my toe into the 6.5x47 world, and boy the flash hole on Lapua brass is tiny. The pin on my redding die is the right size, but I'm curious if anyone decaps this brass in something different outside the die? Thanks

I use an old neck die that I opened up with a carbide boring bar and it has a small pin set up up and I use it for everything.... jim

I have a Forster F/L sizing die for a 7MM Rem Mag that I don't use too often for its intended purpose. I installed a small decapping pin in it and use it for everything that has the small flash hole. Works well for everything up to a 308 length case (Palma Brass) and still works fine punching out LR primers from a 7 Mag.

Hmmm...I do have a Redding 308 S bushing die I'm not using ( jumped to a Whidden for that), I wonder if with no bushing and running the small decapping pin on the long side if that would de prime without touching the case body?

Lee Universal Decapping die with their standard pin. Put the pin in a cordless drill, spin it and use a file to size it down until it fits. You can do a final sanding with some emery cloth if you like. Takes just a few minutes.

If you want a nice decapping die specifically made for small flash holes, check out the Mighty Armory decapping dies. I've got one of those on my wish list right now.

Had the same problem with the Lee Universal Decapping die and Lapua 6mm Norma BR brass. Chuck the decapping rod in a drill press and turn the pin down to approximately 0.058" with emery paper. Then, it will actually be "universal".

Fast and easy fix

Any of the good dies for a particular ctg comes with the right size pin. If you get a die for a 6x47L and it comes with the large pin you gotta wonder if they even tested their design or even know what brass is available

the Redding die came with the right size pin, I've just picked up the habit of depriming in a separate step and not using the die body. Its my understanding this will eliminate any errors when it comes to measuring the case after firing and getting the proper amount of shoulder bump.

Sometimes primers have a little flow into the firing pin hole and it will sure throw you off. One way to deprime without sizing is run your decapping rod down a little farther and itll knock the primer out before the case sizes
