I have a 03 springfield with the military peep sight and when I was younger I could shoot 1 " groups of 20 consecutive shots at 125 meters.I am losing my sight slowly with just age being the culprit.I used 150 grain softpoint 's over a ballpowder and got great results. The 03 is one of the most accurate rifles with open sights in original form in my opinion for the time period.I even have a springfield with a star gauge barrel that shoots real good but I prefer the peep sights. I own 4 of them and wish I had 40 more, just a beautiful rifle with great craftsmanship for the times they were produced.I also have 3 m1 garands and they shoot real well with good bullets. I love the 30-06,it is timeless.

I have a Browning A Bolt that I shoot 300yds from a bench unmodified and just found a good load for it. Was getting 1 1/4 inch groups and now getting .860 to .890 groups measured outside to outside. Only 3 shot groups have'nt tried more yet. Neck sized rem brass federal primers, 175 smk and 56.0 gr of imr 4350.

My range is actually 312yds. Those were 3 shot groups at that range. I prefer min 5 shot groups but was trying out the 175 smks and found my new load. This is the only Browning I have ever owned and am nothing but impressed with it. I have owned it for@ 20yrs now. My new bench rifle shoot just under that but still developing a load for that one. Can try and post picture of group or email picture if you like.

I don't have my records handy but it shot Sierra 125's with 3031 into about 1 1/2" @ 225 yards. Makes a good coyote rifle, but I would rather have a .243 for next year.

Nothing special with bigger bullets which is strange, because it should be the other way around.

Ruger 77ST with tang safety.

Last Year I rebarreled a Remington 700 ADL. I used a Broughton 5C grooves 1 in 12 twist piller beded and free floated barrel as it was intened to be a rifle centered around 150gr to 168gr bullets. It is .670 at the muzzle as it is going to be used for hunting. After a careful break-in it really started shooting very well. It is grouping under a 1/2" 5 shot groups with almost everything. I have a couple of loads that do even better. Here are the (2) best loads I have found. Both shoot way under 1/2" bug hole one hole groups. If you just looked at the groups you would say they were shot from a 24lb bench rifle with a 40 power scope not a hunting rifle with a 3.5X10 Leupold.

(1) 165gr Nosler Ballistic tip 56.5gr H4350 Federal 215 Match primer .040 off lands Winchester brass

(2) 168gr Berger VLD 51.9grs W760 Federal 210 Match primer .030 off lands Winchester Brass.

Both these loads shoot little tinny one hole groups.

I use a Remington 740 Woodsmaster that I inherited, built in 1956, for deer hunting. It will group 1" or just a bit better @100yds with plain old mil-surp FMJ loads. It will do just under an inch to an inch with Nosler Ballistic Tips from 150grs to 180grs, as well as the 208gr A-Max. I also have a few boxes of old Arizona Bullet Co. 180gr SP's that shoot very well in it, usually averaging between .750" and 1" at 100yds. Funny, as these bullets don't appear to be anything special, but it really shoots them well. They have done rather well on the few deer they were used on as well.

I have been searching for a model 760 in 30-06 from the same time period for some time now as well. All of them I find are either in rough shape or the price is far beyond actual value. I would also like to find a 740 in both .280 as well as .244 (6mm Remington), but have yet to see either in good shape.

I have always liked the 30-06, and it was the first centerfire rifle caliber I owned. It has always done well by me, and I plan to build a nice bolt rifle in 30-06 for hunting as well. Though I would like to build it as a switch barrel, with a short barrel in .35 Whelen for brush work.
