How about my first crows and a coyote!!

Two days ago i shot my first crow which is a big deal to me since i waited until i was 60 to start enjoying this sport. Yesterday i went to my cornfield where i have a roadkill deer staked out at 200 yards and i shot a crow at 200. One at 250, and one wounded on at 385 yards. I marked the field with flags out to 600 yards to help me judge distance.Yesterday was a good day. This morning i went out to do it again but there was a coyote standing on my deer. Bam 50gr. v-max into his chest and out behind his right front leg. Yep youre right, it sure left a mark!!! This was my first coyote Today was a great day. Al

Awesome for you Al... Sounds to me ya need another rifle too, just to commemorate your first coyote...

Nodak...

Outstanding! I like the idea of placing the wind flags downrange - that coyote didn't have a chance!

Congrats, I assume you are shooting a .223 with powerful glass? Are you using a bipod? Bench? V-maxes are super accurate, in my opinion...

Bill I'm using one of the new savage model 25 thumbhole in 223. I built a shooting platform in my barn up about 12ft. Cut a 12"x72" window to shoot out of. Made sandbags out of shotgun shot bags and everything works very well. I just have to be very careful about opening the door of the shooting window. It wants to stick a little bit since its so cold out. Buy the way I could never have hit that crow at 385yards without the bag. My scope is a Pentax 4.5x14. It works great. Al

Al, that's great. Not to be nosy, but any pix would be interesting. I shot a crow yesterday in the field across from my house. Shot a coyote there a week before & the crows were on the ground investigating. Unfortunately for them, I knew it was 130 yds & had a Sako 6PPC nearby, sighted in for exactly that distance, with 58g V-maxes loaded. Shot from my shed w bipod thru the door, very rural area & I was alone ) though a screen of evergreen trees & whacked the crow. Feathers flew. The remaining crows made a fuss, so grabbed my 22wmr for fun to see if I could reach out that far. Missed. Put my rifle away & 5 min later went out to see what was what. No crow-coyotes got there first....how do you like your Savage? Do you handload?

I also use a Rem 700 VLS in 223. 40gr VMax bullets @3650fps. A very accurate and often deadly combo. 6x24 B&L,Harris bi pod
