Hot summer nights

It's currently 10pm here on the west coast. About 90° out still, after a 105° day. Too darn hot to sit in my basement reloading or tinkering with a gun. Too hot to cook. Sandwiches for dinner works for me.

In an effort to NOT get all bummed out over politics and other "news" it's a perfect evening to sit down with a cold drink and just listen to music. Even though this amp runs crazy hot being pure class A, its still better than being outside right now.

Just remember to take a break every once in a while!

I live on a farm and a Buddy lived bout .5 miles away, he would crank his 901's up sometimes and it was great, the good ol days, I had an Akai system with turntable had the turntable hanging from the ceiling with springs, so I could crank it

Howdy

Hot "wax", on a hot night !

Recently listened to Teegarden & VanWinkle's " God, Love, Rock and Roll " for the first time in years.

Also listened to bro' Ray and Willie Nelson's live performance of " Seven Spansih Angels ".

Great back-up singing on Melanie's " ( Lay Down ) Candles in the Rain " .

Joe Cocker doin' his version of " The Letter " @ Woodstock. Edgar Winter looks pretty stoned on the keyboard. Cocker is likewise terrific on his rendition of " With a little help from my Friends ".

The WHO 's "Can't Explain ". Hey.... they have a girl singing with them on that one.

The Monkees " Vallerie ", w/ Glen Campbell playing the fast guitar work

Roger Miller " Chug A Lug Chug A Lug "

April Stevens and Nino Tempo's sensational duet on " Deep Purple "

Diane Renay's " Navy Blue ", with a drum beat the reminds me some of....
Lesley Gore's " It's my party "

Connie Francis absolutely soars on " Where the Boys are "

Petula Clark hits notes a dog couldn't hear on " Color my World " and " I know a place "

Take in the video of Sir Tom Jones on his TV show, doing Roy Head's " Treat her Right ".
Roy's own original version and his physical performances on the same song are cool beans.
Tom Jones also slays it, doin' Joe Tex' song " Show Me "

Englebert Humperdink's " Les Bicyclettes De Belsize " is the personification of " easy listening ".
Englebert goes country on " There goes my everything ". Not to be missed are his " A man without love " and of course " Release me ".

Wilson Pickett's " In the midnight hour " tells you why Tom Jones wanted to emulate him.

Aretha blazes right out of the gate on " House that Jack Built "

Momma Cass goes solo on " New World Comin ", " Make Your own kind of music ", and lullabies you on " Dream a little Dream of me ". See if you can always say for sure WHO is singing lead, when Cass sings as part of The Mamas and the Papas " 12:30 ".

Status Quo hits you w/ the magic mushrooms on " Pictures of Matchstick men ".
* Listen to the doppler shifts in the MONO recording version of this song.

Ravi Shankar shows you what can be accomplished if you have a Sitar and enough curry, when he plays on B.J. Thomas' " Hooked on a feeling ".

Tom Petty rocks out on " You wreck me ".

Z.Z. Top takes you to school on " Balinese " and " Chevrolet "

Harmonies are the name of the game on The Doobie Brothers " Rockin down the Highway "

Mellow out to Van Morrison's " Crazy Love " and " Tupelo Honey "

Talk about crazy.... Patsy Cline's voice heard in her song " Crazy ". Sex with speakers.

The Turtles " You showed me " keeps the vibe going. Flo and Eddie know ehat their doin' on
" Eleanor ". Break out the bubble gum for their " Happy Together ", " She'd rather be with me "; and
" You Baby " .

Bread lets you know their " It don't matter to me " does matter

You CAN understand what Stevie Nicks is singing on Fleetwood Mac's " I don't want to know "

Stevie Wonder is pre-reggae on " Signed, sealed, delivered "

Lobo takes you places on " Me and you and a dog named Boo "

Scott McKenzie brings the flower power on his original hit " San Francisco "

J.C. Foggerty isn't from the bayou, but that doesn't prevent Creedance Clearwater Revival giving us their amazing " Born on the Bayou " performance

We think we do know what Lee Michaels means on his " Do you know what I mean ? ". Check out the keyboad work in the background.

Another interesting keyboard background is on Seals and Crafts " Summer Breeze "

How many lead singers does it take for The Association to present their " Everything that touches you ".

LuLu gives you ear' fore play on " To Sir with Love "

The lead singer doesn't always sing " lead " on The Hollies " Look through any window "

Toss back some Tequila to Jay and the American's " Come a little bit closer "

The sax player needs to hit the spit drain valve, after his work on The Champs' " Tequila "

Glen Campbell needs a lonf vacation after his " Wichita Lineman "

This amp is only 30wpc, and these speakers are only 2 way with 8" woofers, more than enough for in the house. My old system used the Pioneer you see in the pic, which is 58wpc, into a pair of Sansui s-900 3 ways, with 12" woofers and would rattle the neighbors windows across the street! They didn't sound as sweet as these EPI 100 speakers I restored recently, but were LOUD and liked to be cranked to 11!

@357Mag a lot of good notes, and I agree on most of them. I own the majority of what you listed there. Good selection.

Howdy !

Can't recall the exact model numbers, but had a sizeable Sansui amp, TEAC reel-to-reel, Pioneer 8-track play/record, Pioneer cassette play /record, Bose' ( 501 ) speakers; and mixer set-up for many years.

Positioned a lot of it in the trunk, when I played all 1967 tunes while showing my restored ' 67 Barracuda Formula S fastback at a local car show in 1980 & 1981. People danced in the isles.

Had an 8-track player hidden inside the glove box of my 1973 Challenger. Think my daily driver for work cars all were radio only for many years, then finally graduated right into built-inb disc players when I had bought a car new enough.

I had over 200 albums and I forget how many 45s. During out moving sale in 2009, some local DJ came by; and offered me $75 for the whole shebang. I laughed. People grudginly gave $2.00 per album, and $ .50
per each 45 they bought.... which on balance weren't very many. We had a lot of Amish come by the sale, and they didn't by any muzzak.

These days, I have one of them record your own vinyl-to-disc set-ups, and I make disc's when I want to.

Pioneer receiver and Technics turntable lost in a fire in 2001, along with around 1000 pieces of vinyl including every Emmyluo Harris album to that date. There was no kind of music that I didn’t like. Also lost 30 custom rifles and pistol in that fire. Just started back shooting in the last 3 years. Funny how fast this rifles accumulate when it becomes a passion. Probably couldn’t appreciate hi- fi. equipment now because my hearing is compromised by to much shooting.
