Horus Raptor Scope Opinions

I come seeking knowledge! I have a Savage 10FP 308 with a Super Sniper 10x that I have been learning to shoot *a little more accurately* with for a while. I have ordered a Shilen 243 AI barrel and now want more magnification. I like what I see about the Horus reticle and think the Raptor in 4-16x50 would fit my needs, mostly paper for fun and limited hunting). I don't see the Horus scopes mentioned here much. Is it a quality issue? The Raptor is $950 I don't want to waste money. Should I just save some more and get a Sightron or Nightforce? I really like the Horus reticle concept but really don't want to get US Optics, lol) price range.

Go to the BR home page, click on archived articles, find: scope tests and reviews. I don't know how current the article is, but it's a starting point. Ron

Horus Scopes are top of the line. I have a HAWK on my 260 rem and the qualty is second to none.

I saw many many of them in use in IRAQ and AFGHANISTAN with the ARMY in M14 and M24 rifles.

You need to have a chrongraph if you hand load to utilize the rectucal. Horus Vision provides you with a print out for several factory loaded rounds. But if you handload you can use the software and build you own drop charts with it.

The HAWK limits my range to about 1000 yds with the 260 rem. If I had spent more money and gotten the model the ARMY uses I would have the option of shooting out to 2000+ yds.

It is generally a field and tactical scope. Things here are generally more target. You should find plenty of info over on snipershide.com.

I have the Horus Predator on top of my Savage BVSS in .243 and I've made shots with it that I wouldn't have attempted with any other scope . . . unless the fox @ 612 yards would have allowed me to tinker with the knobs for come up and wind . . . or unless the raccoon running flat-out at 468 yards would have stopped and allowed me to tinker with the knobs. Bottom line for me is the fact that the reticle allows me to shoot without touching knobs. Nothing against any other quality scope that a lot of fellas on this site use - those scopes are awesome and they do the job these shooters are asking - I just "need" a quality scope with a Horus Reticle for what I hunt. Another huge advantage, IMO, is for prairie dogg'in. I never touch my knobs . . . I use a Swaro range finder and an anemometer. I can use my PDA to punch in the pertinent data or I can go to the range cards . . . but what I don't have to do is take a shot and ask a spotter to call the placement for me and then dial my knobs. If you are a serious varmint shooter, the Horus Vision is awful hard to beat, IMO. Seriously, the scope is more accurate than you will ever be as long as the data you enter into the ATRAG software is correct - which means your range cards will be correct if you do not have a PDA or if you do not want to tote your laptop out into the field.
Again, nothing against the other top optics out there - I certainly wouldn't turn one down if the wife gave me one for my birthday!
