Perfect ear shot at 100 yards edge of river bottom near treeline. This makes about # 28 since Jan 2024 give or take, not earth shattering but nevertheless fun, winters coming hopefully calling and baiting will up my numbers.A tough shot in this mess but doable, the baby woodpecker call gave me an opening.

I once shot the first 22 Hornet built. Townsend Whelen, Grosvenor Wotkyns, and George Woody designed it while Woody SDr was commandant of Springfield Armory during WWII. They took the 22 wcf case, some VeloDog bullets (they took the FMJ slug, made a bullet pointing die, and reversed the open base slug and swaged it into a soft point and loaded it) Woody had the first one, a friend bought it from Woody's son. I shot it in Salt Lake about 30 years ago. Sub-moa easily.

What were the factory loaded .22 centerfire cartriges in the early fifties? I remember the hornet, bee, 222 rem, swift. Any others you can recall?
