Hornady vs Hornady 6.5 CM

Last week I posted a comparison of Berger VS Hornady 6mm bullets on the 1000 yd range.

Today I figured that I would do the same with the Hornady 6.5 bullets I have in stock (NO BERGERS).

The loads are identical (40.5gr, H4350, CCI #41 primer and Starline brass) only the bullet was changed.

Below are the results. I am NOT trying to say which are the best but ONLY to post the results for your reference.

I sighted in using the 140 Match bullets.

Once I was sighted in I cleared the target and shot 5 with 140 Match, 5, with 140 A-Max, and 4, with the 140 ELD.

Each square on the target is 1 MOA (10")

Looks like the Berger test I did with the FPS increase differance.

140 Match, G1` .580 - AVG FPS - 1287
140 A-MAX, G1 .585 - AVG FPS - 1327
140 ELD, G1 .646 - AVG FPS - 1373

My point was you need to customize your load data for the different bullets. Only then could you conclude what the best bullet is.

I agree with you 100%.

3 years ago I did my ladder testing with each of these bullets found out (in my gun) that each bullet liked the load but needed to be seated at different OAL to get the jump it liked.

I have been shooting the 140 Match bullets in stead of the ELD's due to cost per bullet. Have done quite well with them on the 600 and 1000 yds range.

I only did this to see just what the BC of each bullet would do with the FPS at the target since I had the ability to measure it (maybe not the best way to do it) at the target. My muzzle velocity really stayed the same for each (+/- 10-20 FPS).

The info I got is now in my reloading data spreadsheet.

Happy holidays to you..
