Hornady type 243AI modified case

Embarrassed to say that, a couple of weeks ago a member offered to make me a modified case for my new 243AI. Of course, I have lost the member's name and address. Are you still out there?

On a true AI improved case won’t a standard pre-Ackkey case allow you to measure your oal??? AI s are cut so the parent case just barely chambers and thus improves when fired.

I m curious if others confirm this thought…..

Nope. Unless I did something wrong while measuring. Which isn't out of the realm of possibilities lately.

If the AI barrel is set up properly, it should chamber the parent with slight resistance as it closes. In fact, the go gauge becomes the no-go for the AI. I have a .260 AI and the standard Hornsby case works fine. Often in the past smiths would just team the parent without taking off a thread. It really was not an AI, as it would have excess headspace for firing the parent.

Yes, the parent cases chamber just fine.

Wasn't me but if you don't figure out who it was, I can do it for you in a day or so. Just send me a couple of sized pieces of brass.

edit....unsized neck or you can expand afterward. It just needs to easily fall into the chamber and a bullet easily pass through the neck, for obvious reasons.

I shoot a .243 Win AI. I request my gunsmith to cut the chamber actually a bit short, which results in a hard bolt closure, when I chamber a standard .243 case for fire forming. I shoot a full AI load (usually while shooting a match), and the resulting fire-formed case comes out with perfect headspace and minimal stretching for future loading. I usually use Lapua brass.
