Hornady releases 6mm ARC

True. But now that Hornady is putting their marketing muscle behind the cartridge, its chances for long-term viability increase markedly.

With hornady’s marketing machine behind it youll think its the next creedmoor. Hope the grendel royalty debacle is over that was pretty stupid. This is a good thing because we will have more easy choices on grendel boltface actions now

I'll be the curmudgeon = yawn and yawn again.

The only upside imo would be the eventual availability of hopefully strong, LC brass for those not wanting to pay premium $$ for 220 Rusky brass.

Why not an iteration of the 6BR? If 2800 is good, why not 2950 w those wgts? Not much taper which is beneficial for semi auto feeding not to mention .003 chamber clearance? And on and on......
Ill prob need to dust off the flame suit on this one.

Boltface

If this thing is as accurate as Robert Whitley's 6mmAR no doubt about it, it'll be a keeper. And it functioned flawlessly in the upper he built me years ago. Don't know why I sold it to be honest.

If so, what diff does .032 make?
I'm asking honestly as ive never gotten into the ARs.

There are a few manufacturers in the past who made AR15 .473 bolt face who no longer offer them. Personally if I were to run a .473 bolt face it will be in a 308 AR platform. I know some people who sheared off some lugs on AR15 .473 boltface.

Here is an old thread on the subject.

.473 AR-15 bolt ? | Shooters' Forum

True, I am waiting on a243LBC barrel, (6AR,etc) and it uses a different bolt head depth....but are very close on ballistics....wish Hornady had copied the case dimensions for case capacity...but it will open up a new capability for the ar platform...rsbhunter

Yes there are a lot of similar variations of this round out there. Has been for quite sometime.

Now though you have a standardized cartridge. Brass and ammo will be readily available. This will be a plus for the guys that don't reload and or for the guy that wants to shoot box ammo more often then loading ammo.

Also with Hornady making it a standard....places like Lapua, Norma, Federal Cartridge etc... might get on board down the road and make brass and ammo as well.

Brady here in the shop built a couple of uppers just a couple of months ago. 24" barrel gas gun for across the course shooting and 108gr bullets are coming out at 2885fps avg. muzzle velocity and shoot nice small groups to boot!

Found this on the Guns and Ammo website:

The 6mm ARC is based on the 6.5 Grendel. Hornady started by necking down the cartridge to 6mm and then pulled the shoulder back closer to the case head .030-inch. Engineers also shortened the case to make the cartridge friendly to long low-drag bullets that have high ballistic coefficients. The 6mm ARC was designed around optimal use with a 108-grain bullet.

Found this on the Guns and Ammo website:
220 Russian - 1.524, 220PPC - 1.515, 6.5 Grendel 1.515 inches, yet the ARC is listed as 1.49 - 1.51 inches. I stand corrected, apparently they started in Russia and ended up in Nevada where there must be a Brass shortage. We can give credit for this new Cartridge to: Arne Brennan, Bill Alexander and Janne Pohjoispää. They must work for Hornady. I personally blame the BLM for locking up and filling in all the Mine's in Nevada! Dang those Pesky Federales! Where is Humphrey Bogart when you need him?
