Hornady Ogive tool

I've noticed that the Hornady tool I measure base to ogive on my bullets does not measure off the true ogive of the bullet. I would think that if you could modify it so it reads off the point where the bullet contacts the throat it would be more accurate. So, would chucking it up in a lathe and running a uni throater in it accomplish this?
