What # Hornady shell holder do I need to get for .223 cases, to run in a Hornady neck turner ?
I did some research, which must have been wrong, and thought I needed the #2 shell holder. But, It appears to be the same size as the #1. ( see pic )

Looking further into this, my new one which is in the package still, I notice that my package was opened, and has a piece of masking tape on it.
The one on top in the photo is the one for .308 family, and it has “H1” written on the shell holder as you can see. The one in the package says “H2”, and appears to be the same size.

I wonder if Hornady made a change at some point, or ran a bad batch of numbers ???
What the heck is going on with these ??

Please make sure you are buying the right holder. The Hornady neck turner requires a special case holder that is different from the case holder for the press.

What makes it different ? I just opened my Neck turn tool and it will accept the shell holder in Knurled shell lock but the spindle will not pass through the shell holder. Its like the spindle is machined incorrectly ? Anyone else have this issue ?

Sorry to highjack your thread, the Hornaday shell holders have a larger ID on the through hole thus allowing the mandrel to pass through and contact the case. All other shell holders brands will not work with this tool.

So the hornady neck turning tool pretty much only works with hornady shellholders? I have one i bought on clearance years ago if i ever needed to turn some oddball caliber, but im not as prepared as i thought if so. I dont own a hornady shellholder but i have a hornady trimmer and the neck turner. So i guess i need to invest in some dedicated hornady shellholders now?
