Hornady Lock-N-Load Powder Measure?

Does anyone have any impressions on the Hornady powder measure? It's half the price of the Redding I've been looking at. I just want to know how consistent it is throw to throw.

Thanks, John

It is OK. I have had one far about 8 months now and it will get you pretty close. It can be pretty temperamental at times and will throw charges over what you want, but it always tells you when it does. I use it when I'm not to concerned with case to case consistency.

I've got a case activated one as part of my Hornady Auto Progressive press and have been checking charges on a regular basis. Each time its been right on.

The key is making sure everything inside it is thoroughly cleaned before using. All the preservatives must be out to ensure smooth powder flow.

Note: This is the type of Powder Measure I'm talking about: http://www.hornady.com/store/Lock-N-Load-Powder-Measure-and-Accessories/

I believe the gentleman above is referring to one of these: http://www.hornady.com/store/Lock-N-Load-Auto-Charge-dispenser/

I have one and it was a mess until i cleaned the inside completely, as instructed - then it stayed very consistant on pistol loads and also 221 fb, in is mounted on my lnl loader

What did you guys use to clean it out with?

I used this: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/default.aspx?productNumber=270323 . But I also cleaned out the dry lube residue, just to make sure that there was nothing to impede powder flow, although Hornady, in their DVD, said it was OK to leave it on interior surfaces. Don't forget the inside of the Metering Insert too.

I own two of them. One case activated and one with the hand crank.

These are excellent powder measures.

For some actual test results, see this page:

Thanks William. Great info on the review on the reloadingtips. Looks like it's very consistent on rifle powder throws. Big thanks to you all. I'm ordering two and the Hornady cleaner that Outdoorsman suggested.

Again thanks to all who helped.

The powder baffle helps.

+1 to cleaning out the inside. After I did that, I ran some powdered graphite through it. Throw it in and shake it up, operate the handle a couple times.
