hornady FTX bullets in a Marlin 336?

i was thinking of getting some hornady 130 gr(ithink);FTX bullets to use in my marin 336 in 30-30– seems i heard or read that cases have to be shortened for these bullets to function through the magazine tube. is this correct? or will they work with the brass as is? Thanks
 
I have loaded the 160 gr in .30-30 Win; no need to shorten cases as the cannelure is placed for appropriate COL.
The bullets intended for .45-70 and .45 Colt will require shorter cases lengths, however.
At least equal and, many times, greater accuracy than my past results with REM Core-Lokt/Win Power Point bulk bullets.
Holds it own with Sierra, Hornady, Speer and Nosler traditional flat/round nose bullets from past loading/hunting.
Great results out of my Contender Super 14 handgun in .30-30 as well.

I haven't loaded the 140 non lead version. I use the 160 gr in my Win 30-30. I have loaded them in new and fired cases. I just make sure they are at factory length (brass and cartridge). There are 2 versions of the 160 gr, one is for the 308 marlin? The 140 could be longer, no lead core.
 
I've loaded both 140 monoflex and 160 ftx with my marlin 336. I think I'm a hair long on COAL because i am like 0.1" off of being able to fit 6 shots in the mag tube. Everything functions perfectly. I should ask are you shooting one of the new Ruger Marlin guns or do you have an older pre-ruger gun? My Marlin is a 2019 build so pre-ruger.

There are 2 versions of both projectiles. Make sure you have #30310 for the 140 gr monoflex and #30395 for the 160 gr FTX. The number should be on your box somewhere. To make matters more confusing the Marlin Express number is off by 1 so double check the numbers exactly.

Yep, they are even loading the 140 gr ammo now. I bought a box of factor 140 loads as well as a box of 140 bullets the other day.
 
I have a full length rifle, I don't recall ever loading more than 4 in the tube. Curious now, may have to take it with to the range and see what full capacity is. It shoots well, open sights. I have taken as a backup on elk hunts. The 140 mono, maybe a better elk bullet.

Your's likely holds 6, i can ever only get 5 in mine. I cheated the seating down on some Sub-x loads and got 6 in but those were a hair under COAL.

The 140 has been good for me on performance. Probably excessive penetration for whitetail, I've done 2 shoulder shots and shattered both scapulas and still exited. Deer made it 50y only both times.

thanks for that GotT- i see hornady has a 135 listed in those 30 FTX bullets. it would be interesting to try if i didnt have to trim cases. the 160 mite be ok. really the sierra 125 30-30 bullet does all i need but i wondered what the accuracy/velocity diff would be. oh and i didntknow about the monoflex- thanks for that.

hornady does make a 30 FTX bullet in 135. #3025 i think.
