Hornady dies with Titanium Nitride ?

rebs

Gold $$ Contributor
are these dies the same as carbide dies ? In 9mm do I have to lube the cases when sizing them ?

I have a set of Hornady Titanium Nitride and Lee carbide 9mm dies and prefer the Lee carbide dies.

It might have been a quality issue but the Hornady Titanium Nitride coating was rough and scratched the cases.

I use a very large zip lock bag put my pistol cases in the bag and give it a shot of OneShot. I close up the bag and massage the cases to spread the OneShot.

I have a Redding Titanium Nitride expander for my .44 Special. It is a golden brass color and very smooth, the Hornady Titanium Nitride sizer is copper colored and a little rough. I tried using the Hornady sizer, and it was rough, the cases had to be lubed and it still put scratch marks on the cases. I think it was a faulty plating job or missed its polishing step. I put the Hornady die on the shelf and never used it again.

I have no problems with any of my carbide dies and see no reason to change.
