Hornady Auto Powder dispenser vs. RCBS chargemaster

I have two charge master 1500s. I have replaced three units over the last 6 years at no expense thanks to RCBS. I find at temperatures between 70-74 degrees they work best. No fluorescent lights, speaker magnets, fans, AC units electric heaters, fans, cell phones or desk top phones. They all will have a negative effect.

I used a RCBS chargemaster for a long time. I am using a Lyman Gen 5 now along with a Gempro to verify its correct.

The FX-120i is just as good, the same scale except less capacity which isn't needed in reloading. The reason I ended up with an FX-300i was because the other wasn't available at the time plus they dropped the price to match the FX-120i.

Couldn't get the 120i in Australia at the moment, and for a scale of this price ($1200 for the 300i), I didn't want to risk purchasing from O/S in case it has to go back at some point. 5 year warranty is handy though.

Where I bought mine, they are $665 U.S. That's about $821 in Australian dollars. Shipping from O/S would involve. a fee too. Have you checked eBay for a dealer in your area? Many larger retailers have an eBay store front.

The Chargemaster was a no brainer for me with the rebates they are offering. Buy the thing, send in the rebate for 500 bullets, sell the bullets, have a chargemaster for less than a 100 dollars. I think even with all of the transactions that happened I ended up getting mine for 75 or 80 dollars and it works great.

ETA: I think I had to buy a RCBS pocket cleaner or something also to bring the total up to 300.00 before shipping to get the rebate. It was 289.00 from Natchez at the time I ordered.
I bought a powder baffle to get over $300.

I've had the charge master for just over 6 months now. One in one Hundred throws is over the set measurement. The important element with the Charge master 1500 is that it notifies you when the charge is overweight. I can live with one out of a hundred that needs to be reweighed.

Now, as far as the Hornady product, I can't say I have any first hand knowledge regarding its performance. After reading and researching both products I quickly realized that the Hornady powder measurer was very much like its dangerous game bullets; erratic and unpredictable. In short, quality is not job one.

Hornady has without question one of the finest service departments and warranties. They stand behind their product 110%. Hornady however loves to play the ignore game, they simply refuse to admit that any of their products are less than stellar. In case you haven't guessed by now, I think Hornady products are overrated and marginal at best.
