Hornady 80 a/max vs Berger 82 hpbt

Money is tight and the hornadys are 10$ per 100 cheaper.I will be shooting both from a 30" 1in 7 savage 223. I know I could bye both and try both but in the end will one be that much better? I will be shooting f/tr class. The 75 a/max didnt work out well in my rifle. Any one try both and found much difference between the 2

I've shot all three bullets you mention. I found little difference between the 80Amax and the 82 Berger. Both are accurate, and have about the same wind drift at 600yds. It may depend on what your rifle likes. The Berger seems to be more foregiving of seating depth. However, once I got the 80Amax tuned, it shot very well. For distances longer than 600yds, I use 90s. The 75Amax is a very difficult bullet to get to shoot well. It has a very aggressive VLD design. It can be done, but it take patience and determination.

Thanks for the reply .I orderd 200 of each yesterday but I hope my rifle likes the hornady better because I can buy 300 80 grain a/max for almost the same as 200 bergers.

matt,
i went the AMAX 80 route because of the money and availability. i got a 600box (not 500) for under $100 from midway. my mouse gun liked the 80s better than the 75s.
cheers,
doc

What is your barrel twist?Any body tried the A.Max 80 grs. in 1 in 9" barrels
sincerely
Filippo

I use the 80 gr. Sierra Match Kings over the A Max, I throated my 1-7" for the Sierra & Berger 90, 80 & 77's. The Sierra's run just as well as I used them to set a Record and they are available almost everywhere.

I've used the 75 A Max in a 1-9" with good results (Savage 112 BT) also 77 Sierra's worked well never tried the 80's as I though I was pushing it as it was.

Filipimo,
My BBL was a Stainless Merchant BBL 1:7.75 and a simple Douglas 1:8 twist. I now have a Noveski 1:7 3 groove, not sure how it will fly at the long line though ???. Sold the douglas upper at a great deal to help a new shooter. Merchant uppper is what i went distinguished on but is shot out pretty bad... :'(
cheers,
doc
