Hornady 55gr sp for 223

Im looking for guys with experience with this bullet. It will be used for a gas gun for mainly plinking and maybe if i take it out predator hunting. I normally use fmj for gas guns for messing around with. I use 50gr vmax in bolt rifles but dont care to use them up in this gas gun. I can get the sp for same price as the fmj. As for accuracy somewhere around an inch is all im expecting. This will mainly be shooting steel but kicking around idea of taking it on coyote stands from time to time when im out alone. Hard to get doubles by yourself in some desert areas i go to in bolt rifles. Once first shot is heard they are gone. Thanks for inputs

I've played around with them in a bolt gun, a Savage FV12 26" 9T barrel, but not in a gas gun. I got very good accuracy out of them.

It’s a great bullet, plenty precise for the applications you’ve noted and a good number of powders will produce excellent results. Go for it.

Before the advent of polymer tip bullets, these types of bullets were the norm. And guess what? They shot terrific at least in my experience. I don't see any reason why that would change.

The only issue that I'm not sure about is shooting them out of "gas rifles" because of possible damage to the tip during chambering. I'll let the gas guys comment on that aspect since I don't shoot semi-auto rifles.

The one positive aspect of polymer tip bullets besides the increase in ballistics coefficient is the tips seem to hold up better than soft points. Not a big issue for bolt rifles but might be for semi's.

Check out Bob's bullets.
I use them (55 Gr) for plinking with an AR.
I can't remember what I paid for a thousand but they were reasonable.

They are a solid choice for critters. I shot lots of them and I use the 55 FMJ for plinking. Easily a 3/4 MOA bullet.

Bobs are fmj. Right now his price is higher than where i could get the sp from. Bobs do shoot decent in another rifle of mine.

Works great in my gas guns, I use same load as FMJ. ignore cannelure seat to ~2.200" or longer and don't crimp unless you really need to.

Are we talking about the Hornady 2266 or the 2260? The 2266 is a bullet that I load for fun and cheap. I've shot a few 0.3" groups with the 2260 when making a load and killed a bunch of prairie dogs with them.

I ordered 1k. For $89 figured id try them
Where?

I have a few thousand of these bullets. I worked up a nice load in my 1:8 twist AR that just happened to shoot even better in my 1:12 twist CZ 527 .223.

With this bullet anyone using h335? I have 100 i loaded a few years back with 24.3gr charge. Im going to try them out in 2 weeks. I have loaded 24.5 for the 55gr fmj with good accuracy.

I shoot a ton of these out of my AR15s. I bought a couple 6k piece boxes several years back when they were really cheap. They work great! I loaded them with H335, CCI #41, in once-fired Lake City brass. I didn't push them real hard, I want to say 24.5 gr, but do not quote me on that.

I've shot plenty of them with WC 844 (pull down H335). Hate to be the lone dissenter here but I've shot thousands of the Hornady bullets in a variety of 223s. Always disappointed. For varmints I find they tend to ricochet worse than any other non FMJ bullet. Never got satisfying groups from them, always almost twice the size of other bullets. Good for shooting pop cans in my view. Always hoped for better things as I bought them in the 6K packs.
