Hornady 55gr FMJ-BT #2267 Any good for accuracy?

A friend has a bunch of them for his .223 and he offered me some for my 22-250 but I dont want to waste powder if they are only so-so in accuracy. I'm loading for target work only. The few people I have talked to said plinking rounds only with them.

Don't know what your standards are, but I got 1 inch at 100 when I was lucky. Same gun with VMax would group less than 0.5 inches. I wouldn't waste time with the 55 FMJ unless you're desperate.

It's a great 200 yd bullet for nra/cmp Highpower and will clean the target easy, especially as a practice bullet but it's not a bench rest bullet. 1 moa is a stretch, the 10 ring on the nra target is about 3 moa-ish.

I've shot some "unknown" brand of 55g fmjbt's in 223 & 22/250, fairly inconsistent IMO. I can get a good string of 3-4 shots looking good, then a bad flyer. I sometimes use 'em for fouler loads just to use 'em and save my varmint bullets where needed. You'd be better off buying some dogtown bullets since they are pretty inexpensive, even now.

Agree with the other fellows. You might shoot 3 shots that will blow you away. But shoot 10 and reality will arrive. Kinda like getting a call that you are a proud papa...when you’ve been away from home for 11months.
Close but no cee-gar!
But I’m convinced the problem lies more in the open, misbegotten base than anything else.

I have never used the Hornady 55's FMJ's in anything other than .223. FMJ's as a rule are not usually very accurate. Hornady's 55 FMJ and 55 grain SP's are the best of the bunch in my experience. 1.5" groups at 100 yards is common, flirting with 1 moa happens in some rifles with some loads.

This is amazing compared to most FMJ's. It's normal to shoot 3 moa with most FMJ's on the market, sometimes considerably worse. I have never tried Sierra's 55 grain FMJ but I imagine it would shoot better than most. The cost of Hornady's bullets when purchased in 6000 bullets boxes is impossible to beat. They usually arrive at your door at under 8 cents a bullet.

These are not normal times and finding these bullets at the usual $420 to $440 per carton won't be happening any time soon.

+1 Used them for XTC 200 yard standing practice.
