Hornady 52 Grain A-Max 14 twist Question

I have several boxes of old Hornady 52 grain A-Max designed for 14 twist barrels. I don't think they were in production very long. I have several 12 twist larger capacity varmint rigs.

Anyone have experience with this now no longer available bullet and any advice? Any idea why it isn't around anymore?

The AMax is now the ELD-M. In most weights it is the same bullet as the older AMax with only a different poly tip construction. Load data is the same for these instances. I have extraordinary luck with the .224" 52-grain AMax bullets in my 1-14" Ruger #1 .22-250. 1/2" groups are boringly common and they pop quite a few at or under 1/4" over 38.5 grains of CFE223. When I first learned that the AMax was being discontinued, I called Hornady in protest. That's when I was told that the ELD-M is the same bullet with a tougher tip to alleviate degradation due to the heat of flight. I tried a box and experienced no real difference in accuracy, but had already laid in a plentiful supply of the AMax bullets and later bought another 500 from my hoarder friend who doesn't even reload anymore, so I will be shooting them for awhile. They also shot very well in my 1-12" .223 Ruger #1 and my current 1-8" .223 Ruger American Predator. Very good bullet.
