Hornady 284 modified case for 6.5-284?

If you are looking for one to get your touch length you can easily find it without one. Load a bullet in a sized case and let the bullet way out. Now take the fire control out of your bolt so you can feel better. Try shutting the bolt and keep seating the bullet deeper till you can shut the bolt. Now take steel wool and clean the bullet. Put it back in the gun and take out and look for the rifling marks on the ogive of bullet. You might need good light to see them. Now take your stoney point and measure from base to ogive. Move the bullet in the case about .05 thous. Steel wool and check again. When the marks disappear that is touch. Matt

Take your .284 case and run it through your 6.5 die then seat a fat .264 bullet upside down , if the neck is still to tight you can try an oversized mandrel... I have made one from a .284 but to be honest i didnt care for it and just drilled an tapped a piece of brass fired in the particular chamber i was loading for.

5/16" x 36 pitch is the magic number.. Essentially if you havn't bought the .284 modified case , dont.. Get the tap

Dang. So I take it that the 6.5-284 is not just a necked-down 284 win.

'Problem is I don't have access to (good) tools anymore...

I believe it's the opposite.

You take a 6.5x284 Lapua case and expand the neck to a 284 (7mm).

I have both calibers and all I own is 6.5x284 brass.

284 Winchester brass is hard to find.

Dennis

PS: I drill and tap all of my own modified cases.

Anyone use a Hornady 284 modified case for 6.5-284 Norma?

I don't believe I would do the above. I would have to check, but I believe I have a modified case for both calibers. In fact I know I do, I made them. I only shoot these rifles a few times a year.

If you want to send me a "fired" 6.5x284 case, I am sure I could find time to drill and tap it for you. If you don't have one, I could use one of mine, I would drill and tap it, and send it to you.

Thanks kindly DennisH, I may take you up on that.

Good excuse to load up and fire a few. Just need a little break inthe weather here (central NY).

Weather, the last month here in the deep south, we have seen ice like we have never seen before.

Pretty well shut down several southern states. We don't have 4x4's and definitely don't have any experience driving on ice. I know several doctors and nurses that spent a night or two at the hospital's they work at.

Many airports were shut down. Several cities had curfews, and they enforced them.

Let me know how your groups turn out. I am getting ready to break one in myself.
