Hornady list same specs for 208 Amax and their 208 hpbt
is the red tip -or the hp tip the only difference between the two ?
Ive allways used the amax & love them - but now it seems they are made from unobtainium
and the bthp are in still available
and for a buck cheaper a hundred

AMAX

AMP Bullet Jackets (Advanced Manufacturing Process).
Best ballistic coefficient possible.
Profile delivers low drag and flat trajectories.
Swaged lead core provides uniformity and consistency.
Unmatched accuracy at long distances.

*Match bullets are not recommended for hunting.

my 208 amax's are about .040 longer than the listed length of the hp's...
that might affect a twist issue but i shoot the amax's in an 11 twist..so not for me

Polymer tip adds small amount in length and higher bc. What I see comparing the two beside one another is the same overall shape except the tip..Both have the AMP jackets, I would guess even though there not recommended for hunting that the Amax would perform better..The bthp has a fairly closed nose tip and may ice pick or little to know expansion, The Amax should push the polymer tip back to start expansion as to which should be less then a hunting bullet do to the thicker jackets..
