Hornady 162gr AMAX - 7mm/284 Question

Is it my imagination that no one has the 162gr AMAX in stock?
Are they that popular in 7mm/284 or do they just make limited seasonal runs?
Are they a good mid-range competition bullet?
I got some reasonable groups from them with RL17 & H4350 and was just trying to decide between the 162gr AMAX 7mm/284 or the 6.5x47 Lapua (130gr Berger VLD Target - of course different rifle) for some upcoming 600yd matches.
Thanks in advance!

The 162gr Hornady Amax projectiles are just about perfect, (always room to improve) in the 284W and 284Shehane for mid range target shooting. In my Shehane I jam the 180gr VLD Bergers (15 thou) and jump the 162gr Amax (20 thou) in the same chamber. Out to 600 yards the 162gr Amax bullets are as good as anything else, but out to 1000 yards the higher BC 180 grainers rule.

I think there are a lot of people now shooting the 162gr Amax bullets out to 600 yards as the reduced recoil aids a little in precision shooting. The 162 grainers are also the best way I have found to fireform the Shehane cases in competition. Accuracy when fireforming is really good and by starting off with a lighter bullet (as opposed to 180gr) the primer pockets seem to harden up a little and dont expand like they do with the 180gr bullets when fireformed with competitive loads.

Cant wait to try the new 7mm Hornady Match 162gr bullets, pointed up of-course! I hope Hornady eventually get around to a high BC 180gr Amax to go with their new range.

Must be because I listed a bunch here a few months ago and they were gone instantly. And they do shoot great in my Shehane, but I decided to standardize on one bullet to make my life simpler. I found a nice node at 3100 fps with great vertical. I think they are a great bullet.

Maybe the new 162 match bullet will take some of the strain off the 162 A-max.
Varmints are starting to show up and I need lots of them......

Be interesting to see if the BCs of the match bullets are as uniform as the A-Max products. I saw a study done several years ago where the A-Maxs had the most uniform BCs, within a box of bullets, in every size compared to every comparable bullet from every other major manufacturer. I'd use them for that reason alone, if they had higher BCs, because it would sure save the time trimming meplats and pointing bullets from other manufacturers to get uniform BCs.
