I have been shooting a 7mm-08 with 162 gr amax bullets in a douglas barreled savage. The barrel is about 22" long semi-heavy sporter profile.
My current load is 40.5 gr of H4895 CCI br primers, new win brass, loaded at 2.9" OAL. According to QL that should put the pressure just under 59k.
No serious pressure signs, no heavy bolt lift, only minor flattening of the primers, but not even as bad as some factory ammo I have tried.
I chronoed the load and got 2610-2630 fps.
The hodgdon site lists below as a max load with that powder.
162GR. HDY A-MAX 2.875" Hodgdon H4895 39.5 2600 49,800 CUP
The RL17 data on this site, puts the FPS at 2670 for 160 gr btsp.
From what I have read about RL17 I would expect more like 2800 fps.
So are my loads on the too warm side or is the data off or are they working at lower pressures or all above or what ??
Thanks for the help.
