Hornady 105 BTHP

Is anyone here using the Hornady 105 BTHP for long range competition. Does it have anything over the 105 A max?

There was an article about the old tips deforming at long range on their bullets reason they went with a new material for the tips, so I would think the 105 BTHP may have an advantage over the old style tipped bullets but don't know if that would be true with their newer design tips. Personally I don't use them so I can't give you any hands on experience :-\

From my experience the design of the 105 bthp is different than the 105 amax. The amax has a shorter bearing surface and a more secant ogive, the hpbt has a longer bearing surface and a tangent ogive. In 243 win and 6MMAR I could never push the 105 hpbt as fast or as accurate as the amax. I always got pressure signs much lower in the powder charge range.

One of the reasons I ask is they have a better BC than the 105 A Max and Hornady is calling them Match bullets.

It's my preferred bullet to 600 yds. For the price-point, they can't be beat. They do pretty good at 1K but the Berger and Sierras are slightly better at that range.

For what 600 & 1000 discipline are you referring to?

I have a barrel here that will be going on early next year for TAC shooting. It is a short chambered 6CM (Competition Match). I broke it in with the Hornaday 105 Match and it shows a lot of promise out to 1000 yards. For steel shooting it will be fine, but it still isn't no 105 Berger.

I hear ya on the wind.... we all do !.!.!
My own input is the 105-BTHP will work well for your discipline, with some wind advantage over the AMax.
