Hoppe’s by the gallon anyone?

From using a borescope, there doesn't seem to be much difference in the appearance of the throat area after using Hoppes, C4, etc with a bronze brush.
My target prefers Hops 9 especially for the first few shoots after I clean the barrel. ;)

Really?
I've got some Hoppes on the way. I'll retest with the C4 I've got when the Hoppes shows up.
Suggest you put the borescope in the closet and just check shots on target. It may take a few firing and cleanings w/ Hops 9 and bronze brush cycle to re-stabilize the bore but if your results are the same a mine, you'll be dancing the jig. You won't be firing "fouling" shots anymore.

PS: My local hardware store carries Hop's 9 and it's very inexpensive. :) I am just a ball of joy since I went "back to the future". Wallet is a lot lighter too.

There was a test published in Rifle magazine, about 1978, comparing the rust preventative capabilities of various solvents and oils. In first place was Rig gun grease, a close second was Hoppes #9. I got a BB gun when I was 7 years old. I cleaned it with Hoppes #9. 8 years later, I got my first centerfire hunting rifle. I cleaned it with Hoppes#9. In 1979, I built my first 6PPC. I won a lot of tinware, pieces of wood, and even some money with that rifle. I cleaned it with Hoppes #9. In the ensuing years, I've built rifles for and competed in fullbore, "F" class, and metallic silhouette. I cleaned them all with Hoppes#9.
For three or four years, I shot a bucket or two of lead from a muzzleloading rifle. I cleaned it with hot water, but I protected the bore with Hoppes #9. All in all, that's 68 years of experience With Hoppes #9 (with nitrobenzene). I didn't ask my wife to dab it behind her ears, but I would have been OK with it. WH

Hmmm.
Just used Hoppes to clean up after using Iosso. I've been using Iosso to clean after every 60-70 rounds and have been using C4 to clean up afterwards.

I am almost gobsmaked. Hoppes Traditional pulled out a LOT more black stuff than C4 ever has.

After getting dry patches to come out almost completely clean, I pushed a patch with C4 on it through the bore. Nothing more came out with the C4.

I did a kinda similar test just after Hoppes Elite came out. Brushed the bore with Hoppes Elite and wet/dry patched until the dry patches were completely clean. Pushed a patch with C4 thru - it came out with lots of black stuff.
Without retesting the Hoppes Elite, it appears the Traditional is a much better bore cleaner.

It's not so much the danger but rather the smell tends to bring back good memories. Yes, there are better firearm cleaning products today.
Yes it’s nostalgic.
My definition of nostalgia is the brains inability to remember the bad times.

Every time I clean my firearms I open my old ‘dangerous’ bottle of Hoppes. The fragrance drifts through.the room. Clean my rifle with some Boretech . Finished. I close the bottle of number 9
It should last my lifetime as the memories it evokes surely will.
