Hood Scope Checkers...

I used a scope checker but don't know if it was a Hood, the one you show looks as if it has a removable side on the dovetail that attaches to the rail on the rifle. Is that the case? to one I used was not loose it was cut most of the way through and had to be spread to allow clearance to slide on to the rail. This made installation on the rifle hard and messed up the finish on the pictinny base. The completely removable side would be much better.

I believe it is for a Kelby style base or Davidson and not Picatinny. That is what most short range shooters use. Matt

I'll take one if your project flies.....I do have one question...do the type rings that go with the one that is pictured hold up to heavy recoil with a heavier "tactical" type scope and are they available in 34mm???? It's only good to me if it can be positively used to prove most scopes, within reason of course. A heavy bench gun that free recoils in 22ppc is not what I consider "giving a scope much of a workout". Maybe consider offering one that could be fitted with different bases??? I understand more costs, but it would be more sales too as there are a lot of guys that for the money would go for being able to absolutely rule out {or rule in} their "other than benchrest" scope.

The rings hold up well but I've already thought about a picatinny version and or adapter.

As is, it has provision for addressing your issue but for a Davidson style rail. What you're referring to can be done for a pic rail

Tom

You certainly have me confused with someone else. At the NBRSA 600/1000 yd nationals I could barely keep shots on paper.

Well, I guess if the rings will take it then there is really no need to make a different version. I mean, it's not like it's a big investment anyways to have 3 sets of rings on hand. Honestly, anyone that don't see it as cost effective to be able to positively prove beyond a doubt that a scope is good or bad don't need to be testing them anyways!!!!! Again, sign me up.

i made up these adapters to get other scope rings on the hood checker.

Yes the checker my friend let me use was all picatinny, however he had one that did Davidson bases also.

If you plan on making one that will fit a Panda F-class with Kelby's "unique" spacing in the integral Picatinny, then please put me on the list. Not sure why their spacing is weird...

Just an FYI for everyone. This is a tool. Use it to check a scope out periodically but you dont keep it on the rifle. The rifle is only there to provide some recoil, you could smack this mount around with a hammer to test it. The bullets probably should not even hit the grid paper your aiming at. You can buy a davidson dovetail for about any action made. My advise is to use this on a old hunting rifle or something with some recoil. You do not need to mount this on your competition rifle. You are just checking that after each shot the cross hairs on the scope your testing still line up with the same aim piont as the "good" scopes crosshairs are pointing.
