Homemade case prep unit

Anybody out there make their own case prep center? What type of motor have u guys used? Im looking to mount a motor under my bench with the shaft flush with the face so it doesnt get damaged while not being used. I want a horizontal set up. I have a lyman and an rcbs case prep centers and they arent user friendly to uniform pockets. I think the horizontal set up at stomach height will b a lot more friendly on the fingers

Do a search for case prep (etc) in the articles. Roy Bertalotto made/had a home made design that an article/bulletin was written on. Bare minimum, google "Roy" and you find his webpage and info on it is still there. But he is out of the small motors... But still good info.

You can get any kind of motor you want at graingers including gear reduction motors which is what you will need to slow it down like an rcbs trim mate.

My dad has some 115 volt gear motors in his shop, he used one for his annealer.

Ok i got two motors and mounted them on bases. Now im looking for for a dewhickey to screw onto the shafts that will accept the attachments? What have u guys used?

Per chance are you looking for the "Drill Chuck"? Take a look at WWW.USE-Enco.com and search for Drill Chucks...

So far the project is coming along well. 2 -115 volt motors mounted to aluminium bases wired into speed controls. Just need to find a part that will b threaded onto the motor shaft and accept the attachments. I have both the Lyman and Rcbs case prep units and want something with less wobble and a little more balls.

I'm not a competitive benchrest shooter, but I've produced some pretty small groups off this humble set up...

An old hand crank drill, into which I can chuck;
-a brass cleaning rod cutoff that accepts my threaded brushes and chamfering bits.
-a 5/8 socket with a thumbscrew for holding a standar VLD chamfer tool.

One hole---you could do this a number of different ways. I built one of these once with a small drill chuck on a motor. You can get a coupling called a shaft adapter. One end slides over the motor shaft and the other end is threaded so you can screw a drill chuck on it. Try any motor shop or grainger.

That sounds about just what i need. I was going to thread the shaft to screw a sleeve onto it then i would need a smaller hole threaded for the accessories. They really are not big motors to screw a chuck onto them so im left with some sort of threaded sleeve option.
